All in all I think its not that bad from what I've read and seen so far.....most single track remains open in the White cloud area... most of the 4th of july and Washington basin and Bolder city is still open. Lost alot in the Jerry peak area but I'm one of very few that ride in that area so it don't suprise me.....IT COULD HAVE BEEN ALOT WORSE(Monument)

the map is 6 mo old from the description in the link i posted the upper part of grand prize is open
"Motorized Use: No roads that are currently open to vehicles, or trails that are currently open to two wheeled motorized use would be closed. The Grand Prize and Germania trails (including the ridge in between) and the Frog Lake Loop would be excluded from wilderness and remain open to two wheeled motorized use under the existing SNRA travel plan. The following higher elevation snowmobiling areas would remain open as allowed under the existing SNRA travel plan: 4<sup>th</sup> of July Basin, Washington Basin, Phyllis Lake Basin, Champion Lakes and Warm Springs Meadows."
or am i missing something. as the grand prize area is one of my favorites for later in the year. (you have to cover 8' tall rocks all over the place)

That map is what they approved. Grand Prize itself is actually a pretty short canyon. The good stuff that we ride is actually in the east fork of the Salmon drainage. There is only that first bowl north of gladiator peak that is open. The string of bowls beyond that takes you around to the back of galena peak are in the wilderness now. They left us a few crumbs in 4th of july. ...but the best stuff is wilderness. ..strawberry and ants.

One of our funner may day rides was leaving from horse cr by galena lodge, heading up gladiator cr dropping into grandprize at the first bowl. ..working around to galena peak...dropping into the galena side and climbing up galena peak...then heading out on a mile of avy debris back to the lodge. Sucks we can't do that ever again.
I know right were that jump is perfect run up to it with an awesome down hill for ever.
so the descriptions listed don't show in the map you posted it seems there is something missing?
Yeah, all the best stuff accessed from grand prize is in the wilderness. ..the grand prize motorcycle trail is what they are referencing in the text. It is open to the end of grand prize proper, then the trail runs the ridge towards germania. ..that is the boundary. I wrote a letter to Simpsons office with the map included that had the line start in the next bowl past the jump. I argued it would make the boundary more pronounced and that how it was proposed and the current map takes all the best of grand prize and will be hard for them to enforce. I only got a former letter in response. All the best stuff is not in grand prize proper..the boundary will roughly be that little meadow at the bottom of the first bowl that you take to get to the climb up through the trees to get to the string of bowls. We lost big time here and they keep saying that grand prize was left open. ...
Article from our local rag...of course they are happy about the new designation. I find it interesting they state they have 3 years to complete a plan. ...so maybe we will be able to ride it this winter.

the mountain bike community is bummed also. Ants basin was a great peddle.
very said to see the line was just a carrot on a stick.

Bowtie if you would like to go just let us know we will do the best to cover tracks on the way in as there is more than one way in. and i never thought i would be in this position. should be good for a year or two with the excuses, just sucks we lost the other side of 4th of july/ chamberlain basin
