BSU to the MWC???

Lurking on the thread but couldn't pass this up. There has been unconfirmed reports that BSU will recieve an open invitation to the MWC this spring. There is supposedly a letter on the desk of the BSU president saying as much. While BSU and the MWC have denied this, some interesting points have arose over the last year.

The MWC has expressed interest in growing to a ten team conference. Traditionally, anti-BSU, BYU, has been openly lobbying the other conference presidents to accept a tenth team. BYU has also been on record, in favor of BSU over any other teams. TCU has also said that they would like to see BSU in the MWC. So far UTAH is the only school that is outright opposed to BSU joining.

I know that there is alot more to this, like ESPN contracts. Let's look at that for a minute. How many teams in the MWC have multi year deals with ESPN? ZERO. Does the MWC have a deal with ESPN? NO. Hopefully, UTAH and TCU will put something together, with ESPN, after the year that they have had.

I really hope that this happens. I would love to see BSU play UTAH, BYU, and TCU every year. I am so sick of the same lame teams coming here. My wife and I have looked at season tickets but for the price the games are not worth the investment. I would also love to see us drop the travel expense of Hawaii and LA Tech. Mostly I think it would be great if the MWC grew into the strongest non BCS conference around. Just adds to the reasons to scrap the BCS. Also now that TT has had it's azz whooped by OU. I hope that OU loses to Oklahoma state. That will really screw up the system and make the non BCS teams look better.

Congrats to UTAH on the bid and please don't pull a Hawaii. I would love to see a non BCS team beat the big boys once again.

What's up with the MWC not getting on ESPN at all and only having their own MWC channel? Is this a special underwear type of deal (a few of those go down in Utah ya know)? Seems crazy to me that BSU would lose that type of exposure to go to the MWC.

Now, strength of schedule. I'm a BSU fan, U of I grad (my alum SUCKS). That out of the way, I do think the strength of schedule is a legitimate arguement...in that when you have to play top caliber teams every weekend, you end up getting beat up. I question how that wears down on a team from weekend to weekend. Not saying that BSU can't play them, but I simply wonder how they'd do if put to that test every weekend. Even the BSU loyals have to admit that we have some cake-walk weekends. Are we as good as the best team in the country right now? Yes. Can we play top caliber teams every weekend and pull through a season ranked this high? Tough to tell...but you have to admit it's a factor.

Everyone in Boise is gonna beat me up now.

If I remember right If a team were to get an invite to another conference they would have to let the WAC know 1 year prior to them moving.. So if this rumor was true then Boise state would not be able to play in the MWC until 2010..

Next I think its important that BSU moves to the MWC for the fact that in 2011 the BCs will do its review.. At that time they can review the conferences and possibly drop one and add another.. Also there is a possibilty to add the Cotton bowl to the BCS picture and they would pick another BCS conference. This would be beneficial to all the schools (BSU, Utah, BYU, TCU) because there would no longer be the unwritten rule that we have to be undefeated.. Our conference champ would get an automatic bid no matter the record.. Therefore every single year our confernce would get money from the BCS and THe Conference champ would get a ton every year.. This would be good for recruiting, facilities and for the athletic departments.

Well the MWC could have got an espn contract but they told them to shove it cause they were offering them some crap deal..

I personally hate the MTN.. it sucks bawls.. I want to kick the MW comissoner in the nuts.

I won't beat you up. I don't think that BSU could handle playing a tough team every weak. Look at the nation, very few can. However, I would like to see us try. I think that is the only way we get better. Look at the history. We have constantly moved up and now it is time for us to move again. I am not one of those unrealistic fans. I know that you can't go undefeated every year. I would trade the 12-0 seasons for a 11-1 or 10-2 if it meant that we played more quality games.

As far as the theory of everyone beating each other up and then no one getting in. We have to prove ourselves sometime or the mainstream will finally get tired of the "They play no one" argument and we will all be left out.

Finally, BSU would not be able to join the MWC till 2010 at the earliest and more likely 2012 but by then ESPN would be more the ready to redo the tv deal. The WAC would almost have to or run the risk of losing the ESPN deal all together. I am not sure why the MWC hasn't worked anything out with ESPN yet? Maybe something on both sides? I don't think that it has anything to do with the magic jammies though. They don't have the pull that they used to.
