I am going ugrade the wife & I's beacons. Which digital beacons read analog signals? Which ones are most user freindly??? Thanks in advance...

Tracker's probably teh easiest to figure out. Cheaper than most others, too.

That's what I ride with.

All beacons transmit a analog signals, digital beacons can convert that to digital. The tracker only has 2 antennas, the Pieps has 4(one is for internal testing). The Pieps DSP has upgradeable firmware so beacons 5 years old can be upgraded to be the same as the latest. Pieps is the only beacon while in send mode can analyze other beacons signals and adjust it timing so that it will send when the others are not, this makes multiple burials much easier to find. There a whole lot more that the Pieps does that the others don't as well. All this makes the Pieps pretty much idiot proof.

Just got the new S1 by ortovox... I've had the trackers for 5 years and really like them but decided that when seconds count I wanted something a little faster. They are fully upgradeable, very easy to use and will go back into transmit mode by itself if you leave the unit in one place too long if it's set to receive. So if you're looking for someone and get trapped in another avalanche it will go back into transmit mode so someone can find you....

I figure that I'll keep the trackers as extra ones in case I forget the S1's.

I have a Tracker and it is all I have ever used, I like it because it is simple to use. There were several different newer ones in use at an Avy course I took last year and while I am sure they have more and better features, their owners seemed to have a harder time using them due to their complexity (it certainly could have been that they simply never bothered to learn how to use them). Since it is not a piece of equipment we use regularly except for practice, I think simplicity and ease of use is a huge factor in selecting a beacon. My 02¢

I agree with Nocoast. That site (beaconreviews.com) has lots of good information. I bought a Barryvox after reading those reviews 2 seasons ago. I am buying a new beacon for the wife, so I checked the site again, all the newest beacons are on there and the opinions are not biased at all.

BCA's trackers are rated the easiest to use, and quickest to learn with no "stupid" un-necessary features. It's simply on, off, and to change from transmit to search.

I have the SOS brand for now but would never buy anything but BCA from now on. Much, much better beacon. Learned the +'s and -'s of each in the avy class I took a few weeks ago.

I have a peips.

we did a test last weekend as the snow was crap. burried some test beacons. I literally ran to the buried beacon every time, while everyone else took several minutes. no comparison in my mind.

Everyone I ride with has the tracker beacons, I think they are great. Easy to use, tells you what your batt life is when you turn it on. And very good price. Bought two for $380.00 on ebay.

I picked up a BCA tracker at the show show last month. Looking forward to PRACTICING with it soon, hope to never have to use it.

BCA Tracker. When time is crucial; by far the easiest to use and operate!

best

peips
s1
pulse
all great beacons, three ant. try them all, read the reviews, i just bought the pulse again. fast and easy to use. i like the s1 but i worry about the flip open, kind of reminds me of a kids toy. pulse and peips all work excellent. if you practis with it, they are all the best. the best is only good if you practice. but the faster they work the more time you have for the buried. i think the new beacons are realy easy on multi burials, alot easyer that the old beacons. try the zacs tracks web site on the right side there is a link to two indipendent reviews of beacons.
good luck
