Where's the Greenwater report?

The road is closed to wheeled vehicles at the gravel pit, so no problems getting to the sno park. We rode to whistling jacks for lunch and up to Raven's roost on our way back 100 miles in all. met the groomer on our way down on pyramid pass about 4:30 pm.

parking is at the gravel pit until they are done cutting christmas trees, looks like a good groomers meeting to go to this week.

Just remeber, sleds are still illegal on the east side of the hill. Once you start down the little naches, the roads are not open yet, talked to the forest ranger today and he is writing tickets at least until next week, so ride at your own risk.

I passed him headed up at 430pm....

I still cant get over the wait at the xmass tree processing station (middle of 70rd)
After waiting too long! The Forest Circus spent 5 minutes explaining to me that another Circus clown would stop me up the road and tell me what to do...

At the Forest Circus Border Crossing, the Border-guard spent 10 minutes talking to 2 snow gapers while I waited. (Thanks for messing up the turn around more by not using your 4wd! ) Then she explained to me that the road was closed and I should turn around and park on the side of the highway. The cones were not enough of a clue? Or the line of parked vehicles along the road I just passed? At least this is only what $8.05 an hour being wasted...

While I'm at it here; I got to turn around in a parking lot with a nice big berm to jump my trailer off and over. Nice plowing job !

I talked to the forest service on the west side and was told that it was not illegal to ride on the east side. looks like if you get a ticket you would win in court.

they are two different ranger districts. Each district governs itself with regard to orv openings/closings and general rules. For example, the Cle Elum ranger district has already opened the roads to sleds, but the Naches dist. is not open yet....I don't like it either, just passing on the info from first hand talking with the forestt LE guy yesterday as we were unloading. He said load 'em back up or risk a ticket....we waited for him leave and rode anyway.

Parking update

The parking is now up at the actual snopark at the end of the paved 70 road.

The Forest Service is going to start coming down hard on dual-use. (i.e. sleds AND vehicles on the same section of road) Because of this, they are likely to move the "official" snopark around more than normal. This means that if the parking is at the top (like it currently is) then they will not allow people to park down at the lower gravel pit (or even lower at the start of the bypass next to the lower restrooms) They will be blocking off and putting signs to try and keep people from parking down too far, and ticketing those that contiune to do so. The flip side of that is that when they determine that the road is not safe higher up, they will close it down lower and have people park in one of the lower areas, and will ticket anyone who drives past the roadblocks.
As far as I know, this is only an issue on the West side.

so what your saying is if you dont want to chance wrecking your rig on the 12 percent and park down low there going to sight you if the upper snopark is open...

Yup.

Although more likely is that they will close the road at the gravel pit if the 12% gets anywhere near bad. Remember, they are going to make their decisions based on the lowest common denominator, so if the moron pulling the 4-place enclosed with his two wheel drive pickup running bald tires has ANY problems, I would not be surprised to see the road get closed.
