where's a good spot in CO? coming from Omaha.

Ouraysledder, i have 13k peaks in my back yard! I rode red mountain 2 weeks ago and it was set up crusty snow.hasn't snowed since and been 50 degreez everyday.I'm just tryin to tell the op to wait for a dump.anyone who thinks its worth riding now has forgotten what good snow is.

IMO you should ride any day you can....good or bad. Thats the only way to rack up the epic over the hood bluebird days. Just remember attitude is more important that snow conditions. Good times with good friends can't be stopped by a little crusty snow. It makes the hunt for freshies a little more fun.

I agree. Don't get caught up waiting for the weather in Colorado. The forecast could be cold and dry and next thing you know there will be 5 feet on the ground. There are always good tree stashes if you get away from the trails. Get the right people and you will always have fun.

You must have an enormous back yard. My ex lives with my daughter in Mancos, I am very familiar with the area. You have been to Red, so you know what Ouray is like. Might consider that, the mountains ARE my back yard, and you have to drive at least 30-40 miles to get to a 13k peak. Compared to Omaha, yes, the mountains are close. Compared to Ouray... not so much.

Compared to Omaha, we ALWAYS have great snow. Most people can't change a weeks vacation on short notice due to weather either. They are coming, they want to know where the best snow is. Saying there isn't any is rediculous. I just posted a couple pics from Sunday. I guess I can go tomorrow and get you more pics of first tracks on another bluebird day. Just because YOU can't find any snow, doesn't mean it isn't out there.

Northern Colorado has more snow. Ripple Creek, REs, would probably be your best bet at this time. Of course snow can be found most anywhere, but if I were making the trip it would be north. No matter what, like Cory said, have FUN.

Sam

Guess I should have looked at the dates your riding. You're already riding. :face-icon-small-ton:face-icon-small-hap

I don't like to go out in crap conditions and tear my chit up.i guess some people are into that.i don't live in the town of mancos btw.i can ride from my house and be at 13k in 15 minutes

I have yet to tear up a single part riding my sled this season. My one riding buddy as destroyed the front bumper on his Tree-Doo but, that is normal for him and not indicative of conditions.

Since Mancos is 20 miles from Delores, and there aren't any 13k peaks within 20 miles of that, I am not sure where you actually live... Rico? That might make sense. You can't change the fact that Mancos is 30-40 miles from the nearest 13k peak... but I guess we can argue about it.

Mancos is in the desert?? Been there lots of times and never noticed that. The La Plata Mt.'s are just outside of Mancos. Ever heard of West Mancos or Echo Basin, ever been up La Plata Canyon?? Lots of big peaks comparable to anything near Ouray. I ride my dirt bike all summer long near Ouray and outside of Mancos. Big mountains close to both places, and both normally get tons of snow. The biggest avalanche I've ever seen (after the fact) was in La Plata Canyon.

Thanx joe.I'm done arguing with the lippie hippie.pm me if you wanna ride some time.

Better watch who you talk to like that. Pretty sure I have met you in the back country on Red. I bet you wouldn't try that to my face.

Enjoy your desert clowns...

THIS is what is 12 miles from my place...

Internet Tough Guy!

What is a guy to do when the name calling starts?

The f'n moron even proved my point for me. 20 miles to the trailhead from Mancos. Not exactly anyones backyard.

But serious sonny lets meet up and see how smart your mouth is. I WILL take that bet. We live plenty close together and occasionally ride the same areas. No "internet" about it.

So let me get this straight, now, because you can't take a little ribbing, you want to whip my arse too? Talk about insecurities! Do you have a tiny weiner or something? Why so defensive?

I'm sorry, but there are peaks that surpass the 13k' mark around here. According to you, it takes 12 miles to get to your spot. I'm in La Plata Canyon, and its only about 7 miles to get to mine. Since distance is such a HUGE factor to you, I guess that makes me the winner, my riding spots better, my weiner bigger, and my internet muscles huge-er :face-icon-small-win

In all honesty, do yourself a favor and stop coming across like the areas you ride are the only gifts from God to riders in Colorado, and everything else is a waste of time. Sure, there is some good stuff up your way, but it's not the be-all, end-all. Everyone here rides where they can. For some, it makes more sense to ride terrain that is out their back door, rather than drive an hour or more to get to something similar. I think I speak for more than just myself when I ask you to:

You sure did read an awful lot into my posts, well you and clown boy. I understand that your ride what is accessible, so do I. I just think Barlow and the Mesa are vastly less desirable areas from those that are easily accessible to me. I think it is GREAT that you guys have a place you like to ride down there. Is it wrong that I like my area better?

You need to quit taking yourself so seriously. Part of my anti Mancos rant probably stems from my witch ex living there and being forced to drive back and forth to see my kids. Sorry but I freaking hate it down there. It's not you though man, it's me.

I sure hope those guys from Omaha found some snow....

So you're saying that you were being a **** and calling a truce?
