Where to ride Friday?

I need to take out a couple of sleds for a few hours to get some testing/tuning done. One has all new suspension, etc and one has boost and a few other goodies. Live in Salt Lake City and have until about 3 PM to be back in the valley. Advice/input please. Would like to be able to get off trail/roads a bit to do some sidehilling, carving, etc, but quite worried about rocks, stumps, trees, etc.
Thanks, Larry

Guardsman Pass would be your closest option. I did some backcountry skiing in LCC this morning and most aspects are kind of crusty. Lots of rocks hiding barely under the snow too.

I think the only place with any kind of a base right now is Fairview/Skyline Dr. but thats quite a ways to the southeast. You might be pressed to be back by 3:00 unless you get an early start. IMO that is probably the best right now to go off trail, but I haven't actually been out yet.

Going off the trail is going to be sketchy any where you ride right now. Some people get lucky and ride all day without hitting anything and others go off the trail once and find a land mine within the first five minutes. I was up to fairview last week and I am still sticking to the roads. Not enough snow for me to go risk it yet. Yes I know of afew places that you could get off the road but it is still pretty risky.

Tower is pretty good, much better than fairview last week, just use a bit of caution,.... - if Calvin gets his act together I might be there tomorrow..

peace-

Hey Larry!
I would probably head to Lakecreek/Tower Mountain or Mirror Lake Highway up to Trial Lake. As for carving off trail, I would look closely before you try anything off the road. Monday was DEEP, but the snow was bottomless. The snow is deep enough in many places to avoid hitting rocks with your skis, but you'll definitely bump some with your track. The snow should have settled with the warmer, sunny temps. Let me know how they run!

Thanks for all the input everyone. Plans delayed as my son broke a clutch bolt about 20 minutes ago  and I called it a night. Will see what the AM brings and maybe we can get it done and still have a bit of road riding time.

Need reports!!

As soon as my son gets his kid to the baby sitter, we will get to work on his sled - just don't think there will be time to ride today. Have to go with the masses this weekend:eek:.

Again, thanks for the invites.

And Boss, I echo what Adam said:D;)

Road ride up Btfl. today about noon. Just for testing and tuning. Anybody is welcome to come.

I would be down if I had a truck, mine is down in fairview.. All my buddies bailed out on our ride today and i really need to get my sled out for a break in ride.
