When a BR9ECS isn't a BR9ECS

These plugs are not to be gapped because of the metal used to make them more durable. If they are bent to change the gap, there's a very good chance the ground will break off and cause problems.

BRP had NGK make a plug with a stronger ground because they had problems with the ground breaking off. I would check the gap but not change it, put in a different plug if the gap is wrong

Here are the pics, sorry guys, I forgot all about it until you re-surfaced this thread. This was just an old plug that I cut to show you, it wasn't the cleanest or newest one I had around.

Hard to believe that the ground electrode is too brittle when I bend mine around all the time and have never broken one while gapping or had one break off in engine operation (and seriously, I bet I have done this very operation to over 100 plugs, sled, automotive, etc). I have a hard time believeing that spark plugs cannot be re-gapped when they have to be gapped at least once, after the ground electrode is attached. If the ground was so brittle, wouldn't it technically be too brittle to gap the first time? As for re-gapping them, I do it all the time, sure its probably not down to the exact science that NGK uses but its pretty accurate. :)

I totally agree. If the plugs cant be gaped due to the electrode being brittle, then the electrode would/should break under normal engine operation. I'm not buyin the cant gap them idea. Just marketing ploy to sell more plugs

seems like gapping .015 to .030 would cause this crappy spark.custom homade pic:)

The neg electrode needs to be FLAT in relationship to the pos electrode. Not supposed to just bend them up, they need to be tweaked to be flat. And the end of the Neg should be halfway across the pos.
