Whats the truth about BOOST!

A 4 stroke makes a power stroke on every 4th stroke, whereas a 2 stroke makes one every 2nd. That is why the horsepower of a 4 stroke is less than the same displacement 2 stroke. It would need a 4 stroke of approx 1500-1600cc to have the same stock hp as a 1000 2 stroke. The 4 strokes at around 12 psi are also running 91 octane and not rebuilding at the same frequency as the 2 strokes. There also seem to be a much higher percentage of them running successfully.
 
I think it would be more accurate to compare torque than horsepower
Not sure they even have horsepower in England :D

The term Horsepower was invented in England By James Watt (the Watt was named in his honour):D You already knew that.

My nytro at 10lbs would get owned by my M1k at 10lbs by a bus legnth and I think it would be close to if not slower than an M8 at 10lbs much less 12lbs. Maybe if those M8s had a intercooler that could be the reason or maybe your nytro is faster at 10lbs than any of the kits I have been around (bd, impulse, pl, alpine)


well, most of those dont have 10 PSI kits...but thatr is besides the point..the original question was re: why different PSI and different numbers from different kits...

but to your point...I cannot tell you about other kits...I have seen mine run (and no it is not magical) but I can tell you it is not jsut my experience, but the majority, who have not seen 2smokers with boost take over the mountains like some believe is "fact" but once again, I am enamored with the light bulb, let alone the combustion engine... :)
 
I run straight 91 pump fuel at 12psi...2 smokes run straight race fuel at 12psi...A T-m1000 or T-m1200 may beat my old 1ton, but I haven't seen it yet. I'd like to get a turbo 2 smoke...for my wife to ride :p. My sled was stock 140hp, so that's about the same hp as a 700. A turbo 700 will not run with my rx-1 if both are at 12lbs.
I wish it would snow so that I didn't have to use my energy on this computer.
 
Torque = Acceleration
Peak HP = Top Speed (and also top track speed)

Day in and day out the torque is what you use in the mountains not sure about the flatlanders and drag racers who are always blabbing about HP.

I will say that I own 3 turbos now and have owned 7 total. 3 4 strokes and 4 2 strokes. My TM1k is faster than every 4 stroke I have been around at 0-15lbs (Fairview verified for what that's worth). Above that the 4 strokes win but at anything below boost for boost my M1k seems way more efficient

you are comparing a nytro which is a liter plus and an 800

Although the results I have seen are much different you need to compare displacement and boost.

You are comparing a stock 165 HP sled to stock 130 HP sled then going boost for boost so who do you think is going to win? turn your M1000 down to 8.5#'s and run with a Nytro that is running 12 #'s so you are at the equivelant HP and then you will have a race
 
Just funning a bit...no pansies at any boost.

I mostly ride 16.5 and tell everybody I'm at 14. Somebody told me lying about boost does not counted against you at the pearly gates. Evidently falls into the same category as fishin.
 
Sorry I got it off subject. Only meant to reinforce the point that I don't think boost and hp #s matter much as there are a ton of other variables. It matters how fast it goes
