What's the most protective, least sinky and smoky oil that won't gum up power valves?

What?! No Klotz users??? I've been running Klotz for years. Smells good. I've NEVER EVER cleaned my exhaust valves and have about 3000 miles on my engine running 32:1 ratio. Smokes a little after a cold start but cleans right up after warm.

... some people claim "clean" exhaust valves after x miles. Like J I run 32:1 mix in my mod and also in my other sleds via injector. I have used different oils over the years and never had clean exhaust valves. I have gone back to Klotz after a hiatus, and my valves get just as carboned and gummed as with the other oils. Just curious what people mean by "clean" in this context....jmho

No carbon, no gummy oil. Valves move as freely as the day they were brand new. I run pre-mix as well in my 800 mod. I've ran Klotz in my old 740BB mod, my 809 Triple mod, and my 800HO mod with no issues. I used to run amsoil until I noticed a lot of heat transfer in my wrist pins so bad they would discolor the metal. Got rid of that by switching oils. All of my engines were finely tuned as well. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Yes, I've seen issues with Amsoil on other friend's machines. Anyway, I had the valves out yesterday and they were carboned in the cutout and the sides with the some gumminess. I run my sleds a little on the rich side on purpose, but not pig rich. I also run 91 + 110, as I use nitrous. To be honest I'd probably question an oil that left nothing on the valves, but was curious what clean means to some people. Sounds like we run similar setups, but mine may be a little richer than yours, which may be the difference. Thanks for the input...:beer;

My fave oil is the Quicksilver Semi-Synthetic. good protection, low smoke, barely any fouling and about $20 a gallon at walmart. Mercury outboards run it at WOT all day and very rarely do you hear of an engine popping unless you have plugged carbs or poor timing. very clean since it is designed for water use and makes cleaning powervalves very easy since the carbon deposits can be freed up easy in mineral spirits. I have a 2000 skidoo 700 twin with more than 6000 miles on it right now and am still reading 148 and 150 on both cylinders and have never done any interal engine work or even had to replace a seal. only an occasional carb cleaning and once a year powervalve cleaning. My other 700 sled I ran injex and did rebuilds every 1000 or so miles so I switched to amsoil and got 1500 miles on that rebuild now I am running quicksilver in that one and it is reading 2860 miles since last rebuild.:cool:

I'm on the Klotz with ya.:beer;

amsoil interceptor. But I think I am going to switch back to good old valvoline dino oil. tcw-III. Ran that for many years before the power valves and never a problem. The places I used to get it quit carrying it. I just found a new local source for it at $12 a gallon. Itrust my motors with it, we will see how clean the power vlaves stay with it. I usually pull them every 500 miles or so and check them anyway so whats the big deal? Takes 30 min to clean them up.

One problem running that stuff if you have oil injection, the oil isn't made to withstand real cold temps. If your premixing you'll probably be ok but I wouldn't use it.

I've been running Klotz for the last two seasons and really haven't found a better smelling oil but after reading indy dans thread about cranks I'll be running regular ol Castrol 2T from now on....no point in literally burning money.

I use Motul Synpower 2-stroke. It's a semi-synthetic, costs quite a bit less the the manufacturer full synthetic's. Not sure if Cat wants you to use full syn or not, but in my 07 doo doo, it smokes less and smells kinda good. Cats running the APV always seem to smoke and stink excessively for whatever reason. Whenever I see one run I always think they've got the oiler cranked up or somethin

Klotz for the past 7 years. And I don't care what anyone says, I love the smell!! I also use in my weedwacker to help the summer blues.

But actually was turned on to Klotz by a racer buddy who is in the gas/oil biz and he has tested numerous oils and this is all he runs.

I clean my valves every 500 miles and there is some buildup but not as bad as when used Amsoil.

yeah, well you arent smelling the klotz...I had to smell it all weekend long...and HATE the smell of Klotz...

oh, we are heading downt ot Bozo Land this weekend if you want to join in the travelling fun show

I have been gone for the week playing war games, wearing field gear, packing my M-16, and wearing my flack vest and chemical gear. I'm back now to see what the verdict is on oil. I really don't see a clear winner yet but, Klotz seems to be getting a of attention.

Years ago I ran Klotz synthetic, Torco synthetic and Amsoil. Then 8 or 10 years ago I switched to Blue Marble and haven't reconsidered my oil choice until now.

Please keep your opinions coming.
