Whats the easiest to load a sled in the back of a truck?

Ok so as many of you know I am in the military and go back and forth from Colorado to Idaho to ride and I dont have a trailer due to the fact I have no where to put it that is safe. So I have in the past been having buddies help lift my sled in the back of my truck with me but I have heard of guys using atv trifold ramps and putting slides on the sides of the ramp for the skis to go on, does this work? I know I might be thinking more than possible but I want to be able to load my sled alone. Any ideas suggestions or pictures would be help.

I like your ramp do you think if that was in a long box truck with a tool box that would work still? sled fits fine just dont know how the the wood under the tool box would fit. How you secure the sled down? Tie downs? Would you mind sharing your dimensions with me? That is totally Ideal can you load and unload by your self?
 
here is what I used for years..... 5 boards

4 ea 2x8x8' boards - two in truck and two for ski ramps. On each board I bolted 2 pc of 1.5" pvc to hold the wear bar off the wood. A screw/bolt every few feet is fine. To connect the ramp to the board in the truck I installed a hinge with removable pin. I used a std hinge, removed the stock pin and used a longer round steel bar with a L bend for a handle. I also routered out where the hinge bolts to each board so the board sits flush on the tailgate.


1 ea 2x12x8' board with aluminum ramp-end on one end for laying flat on tailgate. For traction you can install some 1x2 pieces or cut up an old MC tire, etc.

Very easy loading and unloading.

You could get by with only 3 boards if you want. Just more work. When loading you place the top of the outside boards about 1' above the tailgate. when the ski spindles get just past the tailgate, stop, lift each board up and slide it into the truck, then drive on in. Reverse procedure to unload.

I load and unload by myself all the time takes about two minutes. For Tie downs I have a bar just like you use on a trailer and then I ratchet strap from my sled bumper to my ball hitch. I don't see a problem with your long box. I'm would build it again if I bought a long box. I will look tomorrow when I get time for the dimensions. I didn't design it I found someone else made it on another forum and I used the idea but had to change the measurements for my pickup.
 
I use my tri-fold quad ramp on occasion and it works fine. It is a longer version, pushing 7' to the end of the tailgate tabs so the angle is shallower. Make sure you tie the thing to your tow hitch or the bottom of the bumper so you don't spit it up or out. If you don't have ski boots I find it just about as easy to unbolt the ski runners and run the skis up bare otherwise they want to grab the cross bars on the way up and then again on the way down. Might add 5 minutes to load and 5 minutes when unloading, but I'm ok with it. The ramp slides up under the sled real easy then strap it to stay in the bed. I prefer this method because I already have the ramp and it stows in the garage nicely when room is limited. The plywood framed jobby looks good, but I would have to find a place to store it the other 362 days a year.
 
Hmmm so I am getting 2 different ideas the atv ramp idea looks cheaper but the wood deck idea looks smarter. Anyone ever tried putting slides on a atv ramp? Where do you get 7ft atv ramps at?

I have a bi-fold atv ramp (51"wide x 72"long) and simply screwed the wide style low profile ski guides on each side (Doesn't take much to keep them on). Ramp came with cam straps to tighten to bumper and the system works great. My 1/2 ton has a bedliner in it, so carbides aren't a problem.
 
Sorry it took so long for me to find this again. I had to change pretty much every measurement for my pickup. I also went and added my own system with cables to keep the ramps from falling when I pull them out to load or unload sled. And for a tie down I added the rale that you see on a bigger trailer that you can slide the chuck to move were the tie down bar goes. I would get you more pictures but I have it put away for the summer.

I use a set of trifolds and cut a old bed liner up for the skies to run on its a one man deal. then run a strap across the back. When i don't take the enclosed trailer.
 
My chumm made one for his truck like '06 RMK posted above. Works OK, but I think if I was dooing it after seeing his - I would opt to go full width and just over the wheel wells.

But the 4' wide is easy / cheaper to build and goes in/out easier as well....

If I'd'a had the bigger fork-truck earlier - I wouldn't'a had'ta unload the furthest out sled to unload the deck.
