Whats the best Jacket and Pants for deep powder?

Best base layer I've found is from BlackwaterGear.com. They make silk weight cold gear that is cut for us special opps types. Extra long shirt tails and mock turtle necks are perfect for action sports. Klim bibs and Arc'Teryx jacket shell. Buy it once and be done.

My Klim freeride pants are AWESOME. Totally lived up to the hype, worth every penny, recommend them to all my freinds.

As far as jacket goes i wear a north face summit series gore-tex shell. I have been wearing TNF gear for nearly 15 years now and really like their
"zip in" layering system. The shell stays as the constant piece but depending on the weather i will either zip in my denali vest, mountain hardware conduit soft shell, denali fleece, or perma-loft down. I have had the same shell for about 7 years now and it gets worn at work, working at the house, fishing, hunting, skiing, and snowmachining and has held up way beyond expectations.

That all being said I just cant stop looking at the Arcteryx Theta jacket.

My boots are original HMK's, they are stupid light and keep my feet warm at 40 below. They get worn at work in the winter as well.

Gloves are Dakine Bronco GT's. They are goretex and keep my hands warm and dry all at a low price. Just cant seem to get more than two years out of a pair so i buy a new pair every other year and send another pair for a spare in the bag while throwing away the odd man out.

OK we've just returned from 2 weeks with some friends from Norway touring around the NW. Multiple days wallowing around in neck deep snow. One day we spent over three hours wading/swimming/crawling/clawing around digging out sleds. Easily over 30 sticks! You want to talk about sweating and total physical exhaustion! My new 08 HMK Stealth pants and jacket combo handled this test superbly! My feet were dry and warm (pro boa focus II) even walking (more crawling) around in snow all day. Snow from head to toe all day every day! I was comfortable and even when I sweated during extreme exertion I cooled down, dried out, and each day ended with total comfort and warmth. I am 100% thrilled with this HMK apparel and have not missed my KLIM gear at all.

I like the looks & style of the HMK stuff, but they are made for short people only. No tall sizes at all 32" inseam & the short sleeve length just don't cut it for me. If they ever decide to accomodate tall sledders, I'd get me some

I'd seriously look into the snowboard/ski gear.

Burton's AK series is by far the driest and most breathable outerwear and you don't look like a cylinder jock. If you buy pants and jackets from the same company there's usually a waist gaitor that snaps your jacket to your pants to prevent unwanted snow.

I will be different....ski gear is the best. If your looking for the best long under wear go Lifa, nothing transfers moisture away from your body better. Double layer if you get cold and all you will need on top is an alpine type jacket...these are super lightweight as they are 2-3 ply waterproof breathable..these don;t get wet from the powder and especially around the collar where your breathing and creating lots of heat agains the powder which if you where a thick type jacket usually gets pretty icy there. Oakley, Helly Hansen, Arcteryx etc....all work awesome and are lighter weight than klim gear or most other sled gear...my 2 cents..

Couldn't agree more!!! Nothing compares to the quality of Arc'Teryx. I have been telling friends abou the brand for a while and after trying one of their jackets once on a deep, cold, wet day they won't wear anything else. Klim makes good, durable products but the seamtaping and threadcount on the Arc'Teryx is unmatched for waterproofness and breathability. Check out the Sidewinder AR for sledding as it has a stowable hood.

Just bought Klim 2 weeks ago. I no longer have to dry out the inside of my jacket and pants and boots from sweat after sledding. Unbelievable. As long as it's the same sort of Gortex system the others probably work the same. jmo.

I have found that snowboard gear works VERY good. It is more thin and is made to be layered underneath. It is more of a water proof wind breaker layer. I wear underarmour a tee shirt and then a fleace jacket then my snowboard jacket. That way if it warms up i can shed a layer.

Got a pair of Klim freerides for x-mas. Wasn't sure about the knee pads to start with. I thought they would be too big and catch on the seat when crossing over. Not true. Wouldn't trade these pants for anything. Knee pads really protect my knees on my IQ, both forward and inside. They do tend to be a little short and the waists are a little big. I am 5'9" 150#and a small tall fits perfectly. Those straps that hold your snow cuffs to the boot laces came in handy this weekend.

sled gear

remember that this gear has to keep you dry for a couple of days in an emergency. it is all about wicking moisture out, and retaining heat. dont just count the number of votes here do your research, your life may depend on it. i do wear klim gear and love it, patagonia 1st layer, and klim mid and outer layer.check the features out on all brands. i like the snow gators on the pants and jackets of the klim, the gore tex shell, pockets on mid and outer layers. i just tried their socks and i like them too. oh, yeah the pants and jackets have padding in the knee/skin area and elbow areas. so weight everything out. but klim is definitely worth the money. i could go on about the features and how much i love this gear but check things out for yourself, 1st place parts is a good source online, fast shipping.

I picked up a pair of snowboarding pants for 90% off (paid about $15 for 'em) about two years ago. They're dry and warm, elastic around ankles and velcro/zipper closures on the pockets. Klim jacket hasn't let me down yet.

Also, mx knee guards are win.
