What's the attraction to aftermarket seats?

seats

All I can say to this post is, dont knock it till youve tried it, well worth the money. Saves on your back and legs after a long day of riding.just my .02

Mtn Missle: Funny! Don't need one on my D7.

When I had my edge chassis I didn't have one either, the seat was low compared to today's standard but not in "it's" time. I'm 6'1" and don't have too many problems with standing up or knee issues at this point. Just think that money would be much better spent then on a seat.

As for one saying 11lbs. I would be very surprised if it was truly that much. Ride one day stock, weigh it at the end of the day, and then ride a boss seat a day and weigh it at the end of day. A difference I'm sure there is, but 11lbs. Not likely.

I never had one till this year. It came on a chassis we bought for parts, so we didn't pay $500 for it. That being said, I think it is an improvement. For the couple miles trail we have to ride to get to the good stuff, it makes a huge difference. I can also swing my leg over it easier than the stock seat, as it is ~3-4" shorter (length.) When I switch back to a sled with a stock seat, I catch my foot on the back.

I don't know about other chassis, but for the type of riding we do, and the 1M chassis, it is a good improvement. I still wouldn't pay $500 for one.

The stock seat on the 1M chassis sucks. It's too low and the "backrest" catches your feet when switching sides. I too am standing most of the day in the good stuff, but unless you live in a remote cabin at some point you need to ride a trail and sit down. After riding with a boss highrise for two years I jumped on a sled like mine with a stock seat and my knees hurt after 10 minutes. That 3-4 inches in extra height makes a world of difference.

RJ sounds angry.....LOL

1) If it's in a picture on a magazine people will buy it thinking they need it.
2) If it offers a smidgen of weight reduction whether it be for real or in theroy people will buy it.
3) The older sleds to make them compare to the newer sleds then fine, most people don't buy them that way but it is a good thing for them. No way is it $500 worth.
4) Storage? Again not a chance anyone would pay $500.00 for a compartment to hold a snickers.
5) It's something easily modified and people can see what you did making it even more worth it!

I know I wouldn't want one any higher on my Dragon that's for sure!

1)Never saw it in a magazine....rode an 07 REV with one installed and it sold itself!
2)7lbs. ain't no smidgen or theroy(theory???)....weighed my stocker and the Boss when I swapped them out!
3)It ain't like I'm asking you to pay for my Boss seat?
4)I can store BOTH my tool wraps(about 5 lbs. worth of tools) and an extra shovel, plus a pair of extra goggles in the storage pouch...just a tad more than a Snickers bar  That's weight that would be in my pack(which still weighs a ton!)
5)It is an easy mod that works well for ME......nuff said.

Alot probably depends on how tall you are also. My wife fits her M7 at 5' 7" perfectly. However at 6' tall my knees were above my hips and as I'm getting older it kills me. Also the same thing on PWC's having your knees up for years is hard on the knees and hips.

I wouldn't mind my high-rise being another 1" or so higher even.
Really nice difference this year with the Boss. Really firm also.

1) ever ridden an o6 900 RMK with a stock seat (can you say wedgey)
2) R&M seat is taller ,wider ,softer ,lighter.has tons of storage nearer the center of the sled, and yes it looks cool too!!

I personally dont like boss seats they are wayu overpriced for what you get and durability has been an issue in the past.

I would recomend R&M seats to anyone they are more $$$ but are a better product than any other I have seen!

I stand up all day as well more like 95% of the day. If I sit down my damn knees barely let me get back up!

This is exacty why I bought a Boss seat, on every sled I have owned. I get the 'highrise' model which is 3" taller than stock. It takes the pain out of the knees by the end of the day. Also the comfort factor is there, and there is storage!

Matt

Answer= comfort and weight. If your standing 90% of the time then you need not concern yourself.

Well, if I had a taller seat that made it easier to stand from sitting, I would sit a little more.

I do realize the benefits of a tall seat, I just can't justify $500 though.

Got this for my last sled for $250.

It was a big improvement too!

Weight savings on the older Revs. My 08 XP's seat weighs hardly anything. Now Cat's stock seat is a Boss. I have never paid 500 bones for a seat though. I look in the swapmeet or ebay.

everyone sits down occasionally...

The Boss seat on my REV is one of the best things that could be done for ergos.
I sat down on a stocker, and it was like sitting on a pancake.

It will go on my next ride before it leaves the garage.

I dont have one, I have rode the revs with one and decided I would need a taller riser with a taller seat.. I realize when standing it was still the same but when sitting it felt like I was almost bending over but I should have an inch or two more anyways but bend the steering posts as is. Besides that I really liked it for transitioning when going down the trail sitting and seeing something you want to go hit so u stand up real fast. I also like it because I think the stock revs seats r to wide. Unfortunetly I can not afford a boss and if one comes up forsale they don't take long to sale.

Just so happens i have the pictures of it on the scale right in front of me . My 07 M8 came out of the crate about a month and a half ago , it went on the scale right out of the crate.

It was 498.6 right out of the crate , just the way it was shipped nothing removed. We removed the seat and it weighed 483.4 , same scale same everything .

Before i bought this 8 i got to take out an 08 demo M8 for a weekend , the sled had 250 miles when i rode it . We put the stock seat on the scale after the end of the weekend , 16.7 lbs .

So lets see 498.6 - 483.4 = 15.2 lbs for the dry stock seat , my new Boss highrise weighs 4.2 lbs . And it stays the same weight after riding all weekend , all what you want to hear i guess. 11 lbs might be a bit low , 12.5 might be a bit closer.:beer;

Hey that's major cool. My Boss paid off the weight of my mechanical reverse.

There's only three sleds that I wouldn't put a Boss seat on if I owned them.

Dragon
REV-XP
Apex

The M-series seat isn't horrible, but it isn't great. If I bought a REV I'd throw the seat in the ditch on the way home.
