Whats a better backup sled ski doo or polaris

Im looking for an older backup/extra mountain sled something probably around 02 03 ski doo or polaris I ride AC m now but the older ac stuff dont seem to do to well and very heavy, looking for a long track and realiable and most of all cheap, so I was wondering what you guys thought, I had a 01 polaris 700 mod and loved it till a tree jumped out at 70 and folded in half shattered my arm and wrist and back, but im all plated and screwed back together now. Any imput for older mtn sleds?

if your looking at an 02-03 as stated, the poo would be the better choice.
better chassis for the year, better motor as well

What's cheap? I like my 2003 800RMK. They can be had for around 3500 bucks (in the springtime when i got mine anyway). Just put a 159 track on mine. With that and the SLP pipe and just a little setup work they go awfully darn good.

I am in the same dilemma. I am about to pull the trigger on a 2002 Summit 600 144". I looked at a few Polaris RMKs tha were 2001s... but didn't want the older chassis. I can't find a Mountain Cat with an EFI for the right price either. Is the 2002 Summit 600 a good reliable sled?

I am a doo guy but polaris had a better sled in the early part of the 2000s but they were a little hard on cranks. The non ho 800s actually seem pretty reliable but as a rule the polaris 800 was the sled to beat out of the two.

Not sure what you mean by long track, but the Doo 670 & 700 are solid, the Poo 700 is solid, at least from what I've heard. The Doo 600 is solid too. Others may be as well.

Im calling a long track at least a 151 but I guess that doesnt matter or have anything to do with motors or realiabity, and thats what im looking for, I know about the crank deal on them for a couple years.

Aw man why would U even ask about another brand? Find an 03-04 1m-900, ya cant go wrong. At least stay with AC bro............

I have been waiting for that and ya I know but there so damn heavy and my buddy has nothing but problems and I know his sled is not all of them but... but I dont know, how are they in general? I only know the newer ones and loyal to the m's I will be, I just need a cheap back up for the woman and buddys to ride once and a while that is easy and light to handle and not having to work on but that still follow with the 8's...

you can find some lightend and piped mtn max's for pretty cheap. if you have never been a round a properly setup yammy, you don't know what you are missing. I ride a ub cat 900 and it really does not have much on my 700MM......that son of a gun runs hard, and they are good for 10k miles.

Go to the swapmmet there are some cheap m's in there even if you have to do a road trip for a day its worth it.........find an m6 even!

My backup is a 2003 vertical Escape with a Indydan bottom end in it. It did go 4000 miles before I took it apart and found the crank was shot.

in general the doo is cheaper okay, this can go on for a coon's age so chose a sled lol i say a Doo but that's me doo's are just as good as polairs's if you find a good deal then hey that's great get a doo though! lol take my word for it.

cool thanks for the imput guys, I dont wanna drag this on forever ill be on the lookout it all comes down to price. And there is no snow yet anyways so I have a little time Thanks again

The 04 900 cats were lighter than even the 600 doo! Where did you get your weights from? The 02 and 3 700 rmk's were a very solid sled and performed very well. For the same money you can have a 900 cat that is lighter and more go and very dependable. The early 800 ho's were not too good but the doo 700 was very good. Problem with the doo is that the parts are a lot higher priced than either the poo or cat.

I also currently ride an M

I would go with the Polaris

I came off an 03 RMK 700 and it was an excellent sled

Personally I would recommend the 700 over the 800 as there is not much difference in power and 700 is more reliable. Out marked quite a few 800s with my 700 151.

The ZX is not a bad choice but their 800 isn't that great. I think I would opt for 700 again.

Both of these chassis handle better 1M, by far IMO. Old 900s feel like a tank to me.

Just my 2 cents
