What would you do?

A buddy of mine sold a guy a sled in December, prior to the sale he did compression tests and went through the sled to make sure it was ready to go. He got a call from the guy over the weekend and a ring went out of the sled and he wants my buddy to pay for it. I went with him when he delivered the sled and the guy commented on how well the sled ran and sounded and it started right up on the first or second pull. Supposedly one cylinder had good compression and the other one had about 25 psi less than it is supposed to. My buddy is a mechanic and one of the best around in this area so there is no doubt that everything was ready to go. I just wanted to see what everybody on here had to say. Thanks

Laugh and hang up.....it's not his problem. IMO that is rediculous for the guy to ask for a warranty on a used sled. ANYTHING can happen at ANY time, does the guy think the seller has some crystal ball and knew something would happen 3 months later? Mail him a box of tissue.

yep....i would tell him to get lost. Those are the reasons I wont see anything to family or friends.

it's a risk you take when you buy used, especially from a private party. i've never intentionaly sold anyone a pile of crap but as said earlier... anything can happen at any time. no way to know what'll happen, no matter which brand, every time you pull the rope it's a gamble in my opinion.

You have taken it this far,

offer to pay for part or all of the parts.

Otherwise at time of sale no warranties as is condition, and remind the customer at moment of complaint.

Can't blame them for trying!

Tell that buyer to go get bent! I could understand if it happened the next day, but the guy bought it, said it ran good and went on his happy way. It is his responsibility, not your buddy's!

^^^^^^ Exactly. Your buddy has no idea what has been done to the sled since that guy bought it. I had a friend that sold a jet ski to someone and the same thing happened, the guy called back at the end of the summer and said the motor had locked up. We found out after the fact from the local dealer that the guy was running out board oil in it instead of injection oil. If you want a warrenty, buy a new sled.

Sold my sled to a good buddy three weeks ago, meticulously maintained, checked compression, ran like a striped monkey. Two rides later a piston came apart, I was with him when it happened. Never know what can happen!

Was there a Bill O Sale? Anytime I sell something,, It says "AS IS" If it blows up... I don't feel like it's my problem. The poor guy that bought my sled, had it burn to the ground, darn....

Offer to buy it back off him for like half what you sold it for ,now that he's screwed it up.how could he possibly think he gets warranty is it still on warranty from doo ,if not the warranty has expired.thats why he paid thousands less than new, even brand new sleds blow up with 10 miles on them sometimes, warranty isn't free it's calculated into the price like in the thousands.

Why pay a thing ,when you buy a brand new race bike there's no warranty it doesn't spell it out in the contract, when you buy a new sled it says two years or whatever ,he doesn.t have to put it in writeing , it's a known fact there's no warranty on privite sales , or on new unless otherwise stated the lemon law only applies to vehicle sales and only in certian places.

What no ones on the poor guys side? His poor sled does not run now? and he expected to pay to have it fixed? HE never did anything wrong? You should just put a full new engine in it for him and give him an extended two year warranty on the new engine, but just parts on the new engine, cant give the guy too much:D
