What would you do?

#1, sorry to hear that....

I would tell the owners the condition of your daughters employment requires they install security cameras. A crappy computer + a couple cheap cameras isn't asking much. My g/f has a mini canister of pepper-spray attached to her keys, maybe your daughter would benefit from something similar.

If you get her pepper spray then get the bear spray that shoots far. Spray out the window into the vehicle, close and lock the windows and door and call 911.

Landline or cell phone? I believe the enhanced 911 system used in Anchorage and Eagle River track cell phones. The location of the cell phone comes up on the computer screen.

Bear spray and a 22oz framing hammer works for me.

I was born and raised in Eagle River. Moved North when they put the first stoplight in and have not regretted it.

Well Jen I am very sorry to hear this I lived in er for 22 years and allways thought it was a safe town but things have changed in the last 10 years. It's to bad she didn't get a vehicle description because I don't have anything to do today! I would talk to the owners and get them to put up cameras I know my friend put them up at his after a guy pointed a gun at one of the girls. And just like NWA said f$&@$ da police!!

Jen that really sucks! ER is definitely no longer the small town we grew up in :(.
I get frustrated by the fact that I can’t carry at work or even leave it in my car in the parking lot so I’ve really been slacking lately. It’s stories like this though that reinforce why I bought my lil pocket rocket and remind me I should be carrying as often as possible. My mom never felt comfortable with me carrying either. Mostly because so many people are anti-gun these day and they freak out when they see one. BUT when it comes down to it she’d rather me be safe than sorry. If ever you ladies want to take a concealed carry class or anything like that, I’d love to take it with you! I’m glad L is tough though and hope she’s not too shook up!
OH and like the pepper spray idea too :beer;

This makes me sick reading this, it disgusts me that there are pervs out there that think they can get away with this crap! I will hand it to your daughter that she is a trooper and maintained her composure and hope this guy doesn't try this crap again. We should just get her a few cases of pepper spray or better yet bear spray for Christmas :D

It's hard to imagine how some people can be so completely sick and disgusting! The pepper spray is the best idea. Hopefully the next girl he tries that on is able to react quickly and he gets caught. No one should have to go through that.

Unfortunately, the pervs, azzholes, bas-tards will always be here. This happened to me my first year in Anchorage 26 years ago when I was out for a run. It's something that you will never forget either.

Yeah, pepper spray is good, but I believe that a can of spray paint would be better -something that will leave a semi-permanent mark (identifiable in public), but then add a flame to it and Wha LA- a definite permanent mark!

Lex is a very smart young woman and she handled this situation very very mature. Kudo's to Lex for being quick, smart and collective about the scenario. You've done a great job with her MOM! :)

Get her some pepper spray. This stuff is great turns hardcore cons into blubbering babies.

Now that is a great idea for a teenager! Imagine if she would have sprayed this idiot and he starts running around the parking lot trying to find his car with no pants on, falling and running into **** with pepper spray in his eyes! ROTFLMAO!!

I personally think the coffee huts are NOT a safe place for young girls alone to work ... heck, I wouldnt want to work in a sheltered place like that. I think your daughter reacted perfectly ... pepper spray could lead to all sorts of BAD scenarios like revenge, anger etc. Ignore and call the cops was perfect. Hard lesson to learn but we all have our encounters thats part of growing up and life.

Sick freakin people in this world. Installing a video camera on the premises is the best way for the owner to protect his employees. Posting a sign saying that your on video might keep the pervert/scumbags from doing this again.

X2 What MYTOYS said. Pepper or bear spray is a non-lethal deterrent and a huge confidence builder in this case. Please send her all of our best wishes and to stay strong.

Jen your girl did the exact right thing by keeping her wits, but do not give her a handgun until she's 21. She can take a shotgun to work but not a pistol.

A camera if there's a "next time" and bear spray in case Stiffler decides to get out of the car.

Oh, and talk her out of dousing someone with hot coffee unless it's self-defense otherwise she'll be the one facing assault charges.

Wasp Spray

Sorry to hear about the incident. Your daughter did a great job!

Hear is a tip from an e-mail about using wasp killer instead of pepper spray.

Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School. For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door or bed. Glinka says, "This is better than anything I can teach them."
Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says "spray the culprit in the eyes". It's a tip he's given to students for decades. It's also one he wants everyone to hear. If you're looking for protection, Glinka says look to the spray.
"That's going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out." Maybe even save a life.

(A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local police department about using pepper spray. and they recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead.
The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection.
Just thought this was interesting and might be of use.
