What would you do?

Sorry this is a totally random topic and I could go post it in the "powder room" but honestly I am pissed right now and want to share this with my local people...

We LOVE Alaska ~ couldn't imagine living anywhere else ~ been here 98% of my life ~ my child was born and raised here. Currently we are in a relatively small community (if you consider Eagle River being apart from Anchorage).

So tonight I am at the gym and I get a phone call from my teenage daughter as she is getting off work explaining to me how she had a bad day. Some A-hole perv shows up to the espresso stand where she is working and orders a smoothie (keep in mind this is a cold drink) so she goes in the back area, out of sight, to make the drink ~ when she comes out to hand the guy his drink and tell him it will be $3.00... he all of a sudden has NO pants on and a full erection. She is quite aware of the situation but pretends to not notice. She contemplated several choices/reactions at this point and came to the conclusion that it was not in her best interest to react in any other way, but to ignore it. He may have had a weapon, or could come back for revenge later, etc... so she hands him the drink and off he goes. Had it been hot coffee ~ things may have gone differently.

She tried to get a description of the vehicle but it was dark out and it was a small dirty darker colored car ~ she is more of a truck girl and didn't know what make the car was ~ and it had the license plates covered in dirt/snow. She even asked the customer on the other side of the stand if they could make out what the car/plate was as the guy drove off. Her boss showed up right then and they called the police... here is where it gets even better (I should point out that she has already decided on a criminal justice major while only a high school student). APD dispatched an officer to the wrong espresso stand in the wrong town - in Anchorage not Ealge River!!! And yes, they called from a land line on the initial call to the police. Then APD calls back to admit that they went to the wrong place and were sending an officer over. Almost two hours after the incident, an officer shows up and is perterbed that she didn't call sooner (even though she did) and even moreso that she could not give a good description of the vehicle/license plate number. Fortunately it wasn't a "real emergency" (like the truck that was on fire by Taco Bell in Eagle River that had a fire truck, an ambulance and 5 police officers tied up).

Stuff like that isn't supposed to happen here UGH!!!! WTH is wrong with people??!!??

Rant over

Sorry too hear that, Theres some sick people..

jen..get her a cheapy tiny camera that she can keep in a pocket ready to use..it might make a diff..her boss could talk to neighboring businesses and see if someone can keep an eye on the stand...best of all..make sure there is always two peeps working.....that could get scary...

Sorry to hear about this Jen. Sounds to me like your daughter kept her head and did everything right. Hopefully he stays away since he got no reaction from here. I agree with Mike, keep a camera handy, or the owner could/should even install a video at the windows. :beer;

With all the espresso stand stuff that has been happening, that owner should not have a teenage girl working alone ever. And should have video camara's at the window. Even fake ones would be better than none. At least a fake one would make people think twice.

BLONDZ, tell your daughter solid work for maintaining her composure. Nice work by APD...not. I wish I could offer a solution, but the fact is that there are even more weirdos everywhere else. Hell in Denver they probably wouldn't have even sent a squad car because it happens so often. Saw some good advice on here already, plus a situation like that takes you so off guard the first time....but the next time anything remotely similiar happens she'll be much more prepared to deal with it. Hot coffee would've been a good one....
I hate to say this, and I hope I'm wrong, but if the dude feels like he got away with it scot-free, he may be back soon to push his luck a little further, so be sure she is prepared to act and defend herself if necessary.

That is messed up. I have a friend that works at one here in Anchorage. She keeps a 9MM close-by when at work. She has some scary stories, but nothing like this.

I totally agree!!!

This perv has hit this stand before when another girl was working and I wouldn't doubt that he has hit others. There have been armed robberies at other stands out here over the past couple years... really???!!!! do these guys not realize that there isn't a lot of money in these businesses?!

She has an iphone and could have taken a picture ~ but this was all too quick for her to realize that there was a situation until she came back out front to the window and went to hand the guy his drink ~ she thought about getting her phone out to take a picture but if he saw her do that, he may have reacted right then or come back later to haunt her. She did go to all of the surrounding businesses to ask if they had surveillance cameras and none of the three did. Trust me, I will be insisting that the owner install something!! Otherwise, she can start looking for a different job.

She asked about carrying a firearm to work tonight (she has some experience but I don't feel comfortable enough with that yet). We are literally two blocks up from the stand that she works at and can be there in two minutes if there is a problem ~ but a lot can happen in two minutes. I know she is aware that there is a strong likelyhood that he will be back and she is mentally prepared to deal with it if he shows. Gotta give the girl props, she was cool and level headed about the whole thing ~ disgusted no less, but still maintained good composure.

Hate to say it but no way my daughter would working alone in a coffee stand. If she was alone she would be exercising her right as an Alaskan to carry a concealed weapon.

Wow! That iz some sick stuff! Kuddo's to your daughter for keepin her wits about her!!
What has happened to my sleepy little home town:rolleyes:

I know Mike, I grew up in the Peters Creek / Eagle River area and I am sooooo over it now... think I'm going to go a little deeper into the woods.

OK, I'll admit I didn't read all the responses. I am a firm beliver in an armed society, that situation could have gone very wrong. Teach her to shoot, get her some profesional instruction, and a ccw. I don't know how old she is but... if she's old enough to to be a responsible worker, she's old enough to carry WITH TRAINING. The Service high incodent recently should be enough to justify this. Theres a lot of really F$^#ed up people out there and we civilians are the first line of defense against them. Remember the cops are here to fill out a report after the fact.
I'm sorry to hear of your daughters bad day.

Geez

Sorry to hear about that blondz. My first choice of a career was a police officer, and I wasted alot of money and training getting there. I only stopped because of stupid people like that. I have great composure, but theres certain situations that require some old school law, like the one that happened here. I never carried a concealed weapon when I moved to Anchorage, and now I don't leave the house without it. I used to keep all my firearms locked in a safe in my house, and now have one hidden in living room, hallway, and the bedroom. I will do anything to protect my family. I hope you get positive results from APD. I'm down for spending a couple hours on the floor of an espresso stand.

hey

If you get her pepper spray, get VEXOR micro spin can. This stuff is straight nasty, and is the most effective I'v seen. The scoville heat unit is 15,000,000. The average spray is 1 to 5 million. The problem with that situation is proving that she feared for her life or was in immediate danger of being harmed. It wouldn't be a malicous act if she used it, but could raise some problems. Stupid legal system.
