three guys worth of baggage, parts, and tools will pretty much take up the box so that rules out an option
if your two place has those fat 8" wheels I wouldn't trust them 1200 miles, or bring a few extra.
the three place will have better wheels and loaded right will probably pull best.

I have been running 8" wheels on my 2 place open for 14 years with only one blowout and that was a tire that was over 5 years old on a 65 degree day.

Each trip is 1000 miles interstate 75mph driving.

Proper load rating, air pressure and tire age will greatly reduce tire issues.

I've done the sled deck thing and pulling my 24x7' triton enclosed is no worse on fuel than the sled deck with 2 sleds on it. Running into a wind with a sled deck makes the fuel gauge disappear just as fast as 7' wide enclosed triton.

what would be the most efficient pull

i pull triton tc 221 holds 4 sleds one forward one backed in same for back two sleds apita at end of the day to load but this trailer pulls so easy it makes it worth a few extra minutes to load pulls as easy as my old two place with salt shield , the triton is 7 feet wide 1800 lbs empty
