I don't want to state the obvious, but you shouldn't keep your shovel on your sled. It should really go in your backpack or on you.

I have an SOS which works well.

As far as shovels go, here is a very good recent thread on the topic... lots of suggestion in there.

As far as where to mount a shovel on the sled, the best answer there would probably be determined by what kind of riding you like to do. Many people will say that you should never ride without having a shovel on you, others will say that a shovel mounted on the sled itself is perfectly fine. If you like to mount it on the sled, it just depends where you can fit it. A couple places to try would be up in the nose of the sled, on the clutch cover, or in the seat, you'll just have to see what will work for your application.

Good luck:beer;

s.o.s, you can get them with a saw inside the handle. just be careful almost cut one of my fingers off with one a couple of years ago, they are sharp!!! i used to carry mine in my sled but after the 15th million time of having to walk back to my sled to get it when helping a buddie out i now only put it in my backpack. if your lazy and don't want to help your buds leaving it on the sled is your best bet:)

I carry a Burton on the back of my sled and a SOS in my pack. If you ride the deep dark forest you should have a shovel on your sled IMO but never leave home without one in your pack.

I carry a small metal one from True Adventure. Like to get a BCA or something a little bigger and stronger.

The reason I want to mount it on my sled is i do mostly ditchbangen and a couple times out to the black hills a year, so i usualy dont cary a pack on me i can put prety much what i need in my sled. Thanks for all the info.
