have an 06 apex, all decked out (or it will be lol) wondering what to put on it for skis, was thinking simmons gen 2 or 3......want wide ones so the front end maybe wont dive so much in deep sno comin down a hill, but a friend of mine said they suck, says to use pilot skis 6.9, stock xp skis ? anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this, thanx

I have gen 2 and gen 3 the 2 is great in deep powder, but i per-fer the gen 3 for a all around ski.

stock apex ski or powder pros. I've never tried gen 3's but the gen 2's only lasted one ride. They made the sled feel 100lbs heavier.

I have owned a few gen 1's and I would run the stocks over the 1's. I found the sled feeling heavy as well. The 2's definatly have flotation in powder, but are difficalt to get the sled to carve or sidehill on more set up snow. Never tried the 3's.

I thought the 2's are 10" and the 3's are 8"

You are corret gen 2's=10" and gen 3's=8".

The gen 2's suck if you do a lot of tight tree riding it makes it harder to side hill and carve.I ran powder pro's on the apex mtx and loved them.I sold my apex and just ordered gen 3's for my nytro.

if you get 6.9's there a nice ski, and float decently for this big of a sled, but ones with some miles get really soft and bend up bad and like to plow into stuff and get you stuck. dont ask me how i know.

It is funny how everyone has their opinion or preference. I ran Powder Pros on my 06 Apex for 3000 miles and switched late last season to the Gen 2 and like them better. I did adjust the setup a little to get it to handle the way I like. We ride trees and boondock all day long. I should add that they do look like clown shoes and they are heavy.

Gen 3's

I ran the Gen 2's for a few years then changed to the Gen 3's last year - I like the Gen 3's personally - seem to let you carve in the trees alot quicker.Lets you bull dog in the tight stuff easier also. With the Gen 2's it was hard to get a hold of the front end.The stayed on top almost to much.
I like the Gen 3's and dont plan on going back.

I am going to take my Gen II skis and cut off the outside edge. That should make them the same overall width as the Gen I's but still have the floatation of the Gen 3's. I am just having a hard time cutting on a new set of skis.LOL

im thinkin i might try the gen 3's they should still float pretty good in the powder, maybe not quite as good as the 2's but gotta be close.... i looked at a new set that was at mountains edge in sundre, look like a pretty solid ski...

That what i did with mine last year. Definately helps it tip on its side easier, and takes up less room on the trailer side to side:face-icon-small-ton If you want the outer edge cut off and looking nice and clean find someone with a lathe to do it for you. Mine look like they are suppose to be that way:face-icon-small-coo

I was thinking of using a hatchet or chainsaw.LOL J/K

I heard that you make the cut and then carefully use a flame or a heat gun to lightly melt the edges.
