ok first off im very new to snowmobiling. 1st year. have a 2000 rmk 700 156 and had a blast! looking to upgrade to a newer sled. i live in colorado and mostly boondock with a few good climbs. i am shying away from polaris with all the 800 engine problems i here about, although i do like how they look and from what i hear they handle great. i found a few m1000 sleds on here that i felt were priced fair. they were 07"s mostly. are they fuel injected? reliable? good mountain sleds? just looking for some advise any help would be great.

Yes they are befi (batteryless electronic fuel injection) 07's arent the most reliable year of 1000's but yes they are good mountain sleds. If you want superior reliability go for an 09 M8 some people say its as close as you can get to 4 stroke reliability from a 2 stroke high performance sled. I have had zero issues with from 09 crossfire 800, it runs great and rips!

efi.07s are excellent sleds.big power.i have learned that most riders are to scared to ride one and prefer the 800.

i think i would love a 09 m8 but not in the budget this year. how do those m1000's handle? and is there a big difference in the sno pro option?

I weigh 160 with no gear and the M1000 isnt very fun for me, i cant handle it near as well as the 8 unless the snow is really deep. The difference between regular and sno pro in 08 is fox floats and a different guage w/ altimeter, graphics, and on the 09 telescoping handlebars and maybe some other stuff, but in 07 im not positive but i think fox floats and altimeter gauge and graphics but im probably wrong.

I have had 3 m1000's & 2 M8's. If you have the motivation to spend a few hours & minimal $$ pulling weight, the difference is minimal. An M1000 loves the snopro racer style intake, there's 8lbs off the front of the sled (it's a slight power loss on the M8 so most folks keep that weight) the can weighs a TON on the 1000, so a can takes off more weight on the 1000 than the 8. By the time you do those two things you're within 15 lbs (2 gallons of gas or so).

In my opinion the main way to make a 1000 feel lighter is suspension setup, if you have it set up to transfer well while still having proper ski pressure you'll rarely notice the weight. With minimal $$ into weight loss, my 09 cf1000 is noticeably lighter than my wife's turbo M8. (the spinny thing makes the M8 feel rather light though!)

If you can afford an 08 (I've got one for sale, hint hint...), then you can ditch the reverse gears in the DD & go to electronic reverse for about $60, I feel that the gear reverse DD's are a time bomb & would be my biggest thing I'd be nervous about, My wife's 08 is on DD #2, my 07 went through one as well. Snopro differences in 07 were color, floats on front, and ti springs on the suspension & primary)

oh yeah, my wife is 105lbs, 5'1 & I'm 5'7, 180 & never have a problem getting our 1000's wherever we need to go, setup, setup, setup.

theres nothing wrong with the reverse dds.ticking time bomb.LOL.mine has allmost 3000 miles.just dont go jumping a mountain sled like its a snowcross racer.and if it does go someday, ill pick up 300 dollar used one.nothing to freak out about:)

So you're saying that you can ride one of these things WITHOUT jumping them??? I tried that once, lasted about 10 minutes...

I honestly hadn't thought about how much harder that is on the DD, I suppose you're right, the landings with big track speed/ land speed differentials are probably rather tough on them.

I hope my 09 DD lasts longer, cause I'm sure not gonna ride different!!!

Backcountry is right....the M1000 is a fantastic ride. Do a couple weight saving mods and it's even better. (There a quite a few threads on here discussing what to do first , second and so on)...............BUT..................since you are such a newbie to the sport............GET A M1000!!:D

You'll figure it out soon enough!

In about 2 rides you'll thank us. btw....you'll need to wait til next year for those "rides".

snowed in Black Hawk today

i would try and buy a used '09 m1000. the '07 had 2 engine recalls on it and i blew mine up 3 times.

other than the bearing that needs upgrading in the '09 DD, it looks like a winner.

I took 40 pounds off of mine and steer it with my feet on powder days. point and click baby.

the 1000 is alot of sled though so for a rookie, the 800 might be a good idea for a couple of more seasons.

thanx for the input rock but i rode my 700 wfo the last half of the season. was looking to get more. my summer play toy is 755hp chevelle for the street:D, so GO BIG OR GO HOME, right? i'd rather have too much than not enough.

thats why i was thinking a 1000 would be a good next step. maybe that would hold me over till i could put one of those spinny things on! backcountry, im trying to find a few more bucks so i can come look at that 1000 you have for sale.

i'd love a 09 800 but it's out of my price range:mad: the most bang for the buck seems to be a 1000. i dont mind taking time to set it up, i just dont want to have to work on it every ride.
