My Ruger 10/22 has ate thousands of shells w/out issue, Back in the day they could be had for little money but now the price is up on them. Nice gun though, I picked up a old Remington semi auto & have no idea which model but it shoots longs, short & CB's..... The old Remington get the most use around my house plunking the CB's as of late.

I assume we are talking 22 LR & not 222 REM or Hornet?

Go to your local sporting goods store and take a look at the guns they have their. The best gun is the one you are comfortable with and that fits you when you pull it up.

Depends on what you wish to do with it. For pistols I really like the Ruger Mark II for general shooting, target, and varmit. I have worked over Ruger Mark I and shot 450 rounds last night at an indoor range. I was having a blast, literally. Browning has a nice shooter as well.

For rifles the Ruger 10-22 is hard to beat for all around plinker and fun gun. There are several bench rest bolt actions but they are gunna cost ya. Remington also makes solid reliable and good shooters. I have a Remington Nylon 66 that the gunsmith was eye-balling last night at the range. It is not a bench gun but it will put 10 rounds in the 1" bullseye at 25 yrds. I suppose I should try some match grade to see if it will shoot a little tighter but honestly, the gun is 30 years old and does fantastic bone stock with cheap ammo. I would also look and see if Savage has a good 22 available. They have really stepped up the past few years with great triggers, reliable bolts, and accurate barrels. In some calibers you can get a superior gun with less money than brand x.

i've got an OLD remington speedmaster 22 (probably dates to about 1965ish time frame)... if i was buying one today though, i'd get the 10/22... if you don't like any aspect of it there are about as many mods for that gun as there are mods for a chevy 350 small block... including things like gatling gun mods and etc... as far as 22's go, that little sucker is TOUGH to beat...

I just bought my dad a 10/22 Ruger Semi-auto for Christmas. I asked many people as well and that is what everyone came up with if you're looking for a good semi-auto. I bought him the stainless/synthetic because that's what he wanted. It was $219 at most of the big outdoor stores including Walmart, Sportsman's Warehouse, and Scheels. The blued/wood stock was $179 at each of the stores.

For semi auto .22's, nothing beats the ruger 10/22. They are cheap, reliable, accurate, and have a GIGANTIC aftermarket.

Mine is stainless with butler creek stainless folding stock w/pistol grip, bolt buffer, red dot scope, and a couple 25 round butler creek steel lipped mags. Also just got the mag speed loader cause it takes more time to load the mags then it does to blast through them. 1000 rounds for $20 also cant be beat. Hella fun to shoot and does a number on ptarmigan and rabbits.

I have to agree ruger 10/22. many addons, I put a butler creek heavy barrel and a laminated thumb hole stock. It drives tacks at 50 yards. As far as pistols I have a browning buck mark varmint it also drives tacks at 50 yards. I also have a s&w 622 its an all aluminum pistol with a stainless barrel sleeve only weighs 20 ounces a good packer. the last two aren't made any more but can be found at most used shops and well worth it if you find them. if i was searching for a new 22 pistol i would look for a Walther p22 great little guns.
I would steer away from many of the .17 because the limit the amount of shooting at least for me because of cost. Most times ya can get 500 22 shells for the cost of 50 .17
If ya want to see pic let me know i will post some up :beer;

... 10-22 again... Me & my buds all have, or have had them. One friend decided to go "high tech/hi price" Bought a browning lever for lots of cash.. Thing didn't last 3 years before he had jamming problems.
Only prob I ever had with the 10-22 was when I used an aftermarket 30 round banana clip.. pieces of chit. might be spendy now but the some Bee will still be shootin' long after you've forgotten about the cost:D:cool:

personally i dont see whats so great about the ruger 10/22 over any other 22 other than the huge after market for them, but i'm not a big fan of any of the clip fed 22s. i love my tube fed marlin its never gave me any problems and its alot easier to load which is nice when you need to load in a hurry like when your out bunny huntin and you get into them real good. its very accurate and it seems to jam less than my dads 10/22 and my brothers remington semi auto. but like mentioned before it all depends what you like and what feels good to you.

I received a Marlin Model 60 24 years ago for x-mas. I sold it while in college to my girlfriend at the times dad because I bought the 10/22. I sure wish I had that Marlin back...super accurate, light weight and easy to shoot with a spotlight. Lesson learned...I've never sold another gun!

Ruger 10/22, get a couple banana clips, good scope, your set. Put thousands of rounds thru mine. Gophers wont know what hit em. You can pick them up at Crappie Tire South.

What brand banana clip do you guys have? What is the best ammo to use in the Ruger. I've heard of the cheaper ammo jamming in that gun.
