What should I know about buying a 2007 M1000?

I'm still trying to come up with an M1000 of some sort ...

I went and priced out a new 2009 holdover yesterday and it was gonna be like $11,000 OTD for the Sno Pro ...

A guy at work has a 2007 M1000 with a Holz rear skid he is asking $6500 for.

What is there to know about the 2007 M10's? Any major problems with them? If I'm not mistaken that was the first year they made them, right?

What does it take to really wake one up short of a big bore kit or a turbo?

After 2 years of riding my stock 07, this is what i did this last summer... BMP pipe , y pipe and can , cutler head, rkt secondary, racepack II gauge and boondocker box! Went out yesterday for a quick road ride, and wow!!! WAY different than stock! Me Likie! shave weight and it should be a good sled

First thing you do Dawg is pull the ecu off and have the dealer send it out for the 09 fuel map/update. My buddy just had this done to his 07 m1000 and he took the fuel controller off because of it.

Just purchased the same sled a month ago... 07 M1000 162 600 miles... took it out for the first time yesterday! She goes good! Other than the HPS can she is pretty well stock

Make sure it's had the 09 updates done. You'll want to know what kind of maintenance has been done to the diamond drive, as long as it has been serviced yearly it'll be good.

The best thing to do is to lose the stock can, I shaved 13lbs by going to an MBRP. Put the high flow intake kit on it, makes a huge difference. They really don't need much to be "woken up", just open up the intake and exhaust a bit lets them breath better and you get better throttle response.

why are you looking to buy mine for 5200.00

Dog, don't know where you live but a dealer in Citrius Heights California (Adrenaline Power Sports) has a nice used one that I bet you could get for a good deal with an after market can. Also has some new ones all 09s but i have no idea what the prices are. You can look him up on West Coast Sleds web page. Rode his sled last year and it was awsome.

Hard on belts a vent kit is must as well as a different clutch set up then stock. Make sure the Diamond drive oil has been changed alot. If you could find a 08 or a 07 that has been clutched and geared down. SLP pipe set up works good. A riser for the bars is a good thing unless you are shorter then five foot one.

Is this a Sno Pro or a standard?
What's the mileage?

Buy the 07. You can do a hell of alot with the difference in $$, especially since it has the Holz skid. Reflash to 09 and dont use the reverse if you dont have to or upgrade the the DD As far as waking it up, I chose twin pipes and a 40 pound diet

In my opinion, best thing you can do is put it on a major diet. There is a lot of weight to be taken off fairly easily.

after having both, with slp exhaust, the 09 stock will out do the slp 07 everywhere except in a drag race. I've seen them selling for 8999 new. then it has no miles and a warranty. If the 07 has a 4 post clutch, the spider will break, and its 31lbs heavier than a 09. unless you can buy a really low miles 07 or get a warranty I wouldn't pay more than 4500 for one and expect to spend money at some point. I would get the 09 its the first m1000 that they got things right on.

diamond-s hood(great for cooling also), speedwerx cold air intake, speedwerx tunnel dump muffler, skid seat, holz rear suspension, black diamond xtreme lite drive(57/63 gearing), bdx rear bumper and tunnel kit, and 09 rear cooler. As for helping keep snow accumulation down, I have a set of snow eliminators and have cut the excess plastic on the belly like they started doing on the 09. When ridden hard, this sled will produce a lot of heat. Be sure you have stuff under the hood heat taped. Some of the items from the update last spring are great like the heat reflective wire looms for the plug wires and the oil tank, injector heat shield. I also use 2cool air vents and still had problems with the stock 4 post primary clutch. Luckily when the spider broke, cat warranteed it and replaced it with the 3 post.

What do you mean took the fuel controller off because of it? If I'm running a boondocker box...is having it reflashed as important to me? Does the dealer (of course they do...) want anything for the re-flashing of the fuel map -- can they do it in house, or do they have to send it to Arctic Cat HQ somewhere..?

Geez...maybe I'm just more chick than I thought...but my '07 M1000 has can, pipe, some lost weight and a boondocker...and if I'm not careful, I'll dump myself off the *** end in a hurry if I don't have a death grip on my handles and squeeze too hard...F'ing scary fast to me...i've never felt I needed more speed or power at all -- even on the steepest hill climbs i've done...if anything, I'm always having to feather the throttle back because it has too much!!

Being a little bit heavier is the biggest difference I see...

Also, does anybody know if arctic cat is doing any "preventative maintenance" on the DD's? would they swap out a 4 post clutch for a 3 post instead of me having to break it sometime?

country cat in MN is selling new 07 m1000's for $6800. buying out of state no tax would prob cover shipping. shipping would prob not be bad if you got one in a crate.

Thanks man, gives me a place to start. in your opinion waas it worth all of the money spent to reduce wieght, how much do you think you shaved off?

The difference of what the sled is capable of now compared to stock, I'd say it's worth it. Personally I'd buy a 2010 M8 over buying a left over or used sled and putting money into it. I'm hoping to weigh it in the near future and will be posting what I come up with.

Another thing to take into consideration is when the primary needs work you are going to have to update to the new clutch. I had a roller go out in mine and they don't sell the rollers or the spiders for them. You're going to have to buy a whole new clutch.
