what oil do u use ? polaris only ?

The eternal pessimist!!!!!! :face-icon-small-sho

:beer;

3500 miles so far between 2 sleds... that's not a ton admittedly, but still no problems and the pistons on my 9 look great as of 3 weeks ago:face-icon-small-hap

Let's see, you have had your sled out how many times this season running VES?

and Guido has had his sleds out twice..lol

Not as much as I would like, but that's just from the bad snow conditions we have had this year.... only got 250 miles... last year I was over 500 by now:face-icon-small-sad

After reading indy dan's thesis write-up on oil this summer I switched to blue marble and everything has been great so far but still too early to tell.

Amsoil dominator, Mixing in Amsoil Intercepter now for last two rides.

Theory: Dominator for every two week usage,,, Intercepter for last few so i have oil w/ cleaning agents and rust prevent for end and storage.

05 900, with 05 pistons,,, no problems.. I don't premix in tank.

The sled ripps ars !!! Pulls like a Cafe bike !

I ran Shell Advance Synthetic in my '01 800 RMK for about 4000 miles with no issues and so far I've run the same oil in my '06 900 with no issues at 3500 miles. I think I'll stick with it.

good oil

Indy Dan is thinking of the bottom end in his thread. I respect what he has to say very much. But and a big but!! carbon kill's 2 stoke motor's
just as bad as rust does on the crank bearings. in my years of rebuilding motors (started at 11 years old with sleds LOL) was trained by a race team in the 70s from Polaris.
I have built some little 292 sleds to big and wild motors 1140's 1200 triples and most every thing in between. carbon was more of a problem than rust. (most rust is from poor storage and not the oil you burn) check out SLP web page on oil and see what they only recommend ( they don't even sell red line oil) but that is all they recommend.
I have ran only amsoil interceptor in all my sled from 1996 on and never had any crank or top-end problems with my sleds.
RED LINE AND OR AMSOIL IN RACE SLED FOR SURE
have not had a stock sled since 1972 LOL damn I am old LOL:lol:

read the thread called..

"crankin' on my 06 900" it will tell you MORE then you ever knew...;)

well i can get amsiol interceptor here loccally at napa and the polaris is a ways away to go get..also interceptor is way way cheaper so i guess im gonna givbe it a try since other mentioned positive about it..

When I seized my '00 700 it had at least 5000 miles on it. I decided to have the moter completely rebuilt so I took Union Bay's advice and installed a new crank simply due to mileage. The crank that came out of the sled was absolutely mint and it had run on a steady diet of Polaris blue then Amsoil Interceptor. My new '08 has had a steady diet of VES Gold granted it's not a high mileage sled yet and I believe Indy Dan is the man but... My sleds have always been stored inside an insulated shop with low humidity east of the pass. We've always warmed our sleds up and started off slowly on all our rides. I think good operating habits are as important as the oil you use. I don't think I'll change any thing except I'll start running Interceptor in my '08 when the gold runs out. :rain:

It's not the oil it is how your sled is stored. Start your sled once a month over the summer and run it up to temperature and you will not have any issues using VES Gold or Amsoil. Everyone I know in Missoula runs the Amsoil and I know at least one 05 900 that ran it from day one and is still going strong on the original crank.

I'm not an oil expert, but there's a reason I wont run ves gold in my sled... after reading all the controversy about it on here in other oil threads, I started paying close attention. Running ves gold I see small air bubbles forming in the injector lines, but no bubbles with the Castrol Dan recommends. That was enough for me.

Mine has ran VES from day one. It still has the original 05 crank. The inside of the engine is mint. The cylinder condition was like new. It's not the oil. I would bet money the failed sleds had boondocker boxes, nitrous, SLP Pipes or some other mods done to the engine.

Nothing like a good oil thread, lol..... I think oil is the one thing none of us will ever agree on.

I have run nothing but Polaris Gold in my sleds with no problems.:D

no kidding eh!. i run gold as well.

ive seen sleds blow up running walmart special. and pricey Polaris mother ship nectar ves gold.

one might be a hint better then the other... but in the end, any oil is better then no oil

they all work. Storage is the issue that kills them. Make sure you are running a pint mixed with the gas especially if you are not running synthetic.
