What kind of oil can I use in my MPI supercharger?

I posted this on TY but the site seems like there's not a lot of activity lately.

Besides the oil that MPI sells what other brands will work and what is the correct type and viscosity to use? Thanks.

You may have to phone MPI on that one if you don't want any issues. I am sure there is something but why chance it. I know there oil is like a hundred bucks but it last along time. As long as there is no water in it, you'll be fine.

I talked to them today and they said I have to run their oil. Isn't that like what people use to say that if lets say Skidoo said you have to run their oil or else your warranty is void then the manufacturer would have to supply you with the oil for free?

Why would you want to go cheap and risk problems?

I'm certain if you used another oil and had issues you'd want MPI to warranty it.

Stay with what works.

I dont think MPI is claiming that its rotrex the SC company. That blower is spinning at 150,000 rpms and the shear loads on those gears inside that thing are horrendous. Its spendy stuff but its the only thing that can be used confidently right now and I would be pissed if I lost riding because I tried something else.

it is called traction fluid. go to rotrex's website and read up on it.

believe me. I really did not want to spend $100 on a small bottle of liquid. don't want to chance ruining a $1700 supercharger or it not working correctly either.

Run the traction fluid that MPI recommends. Do a search for Rotrex Supercharger on Yahoo or Google and you can find the oil a little cheaper.

I didn't buy the SC it was already on the sled when I purchased it. Just wondering if there was anything else out there that I could use. Not trying to go cheap, I just don't like being gouged if there's something available that has the same API rating as what they recommend. I run Amsoil in everything I own so I wouldn't consider myself cheap when it comes to buying oil for my cars and toys. There's no warranty on one of these things that I know of since the sled already has a season on this setup.

Thanks, I'll search around to see what I can find. I'll be calling you soon for some front end bushing for this sled since they appear to be blown out be the amount of play in the arms.

That was what MPI told me, Rotrex is the manu of the SC and they won't tell MPI what exactly the oil is but they must run it.
