What is the most innovative sled for it's time?

2009 550 fan. gotta love the 7-8 year old chassis is still in use lol.

In all honesty, the rev probubly is; even tho skidoo just ripped off redline. Also, i think the first wedge chassis polaris sleds. What was that? like 86,84? They used them till like 1998 and there are more of them out there then all the revs, dragons and m sleds put together.

198? Yamaha Phazer --- There are still people that swear by them
1990 Arctic Cat Prowler --- Totally new front suspension
1992 Yamaha V-max 4 --- nobody saw that coming, created the hypersled class
1994 Skidoo Summit --- First real mountain sled, not just a long track
1995 Polaris RXL and XLT --- Super long travel in a factory suspension
200? AD Boivin SnowHawk --- I still think this thing is going to do great things
2003 Skidoo Rev Chassis --- Seriously what didn't it change
2003 Arctic Cat Firecat F7 --- if you wanna drag race it's the sled to have

Thats all I can think of right now.

I'd rank them like this

Phazer,
Summit
RX1,
Snowhawk - very innovative but don't see many around
Red Line - would rank higher if they would have made more or been around longer, man they sure look great on the outside.

My vote would be for the Elan and some other old skool sleds like some of the first Artic Cats that had slide rail suspensions and the famous Polaris Indy with IFS.

Also my second is for the Ski Doo Summit that started it all for those of us that are "mountain riders".

But.... I do have to say that the Phazer is the one that changed it all.

Can't wait for another five years to see what all those engineers come up with next.

74 TNT 440
84 Phazer
late 80's Prowler
95 XLT Polaris
96 Summit
(& Crazy Mountian Extreme
04 REV--first real REV.

Redline would have been sweet as a first--But did not make enough to count.

H20SKE...

MY .02

Original Polaris Indy, 2003 MXZ REV, 2003 RX1. Speaking of which I seen a Redline semi in town tonight. I thought they were broke???

This is true they went belly up and sold th entire company, patents and everything. The new owners are making some pretty wicked songle and twn seater buggies with tons of suspension. They look pretty fun.

Production sleds are average. Even now. My vote goes to the Mods. Think bigger. Like the HP3 propane turbo'ed Apex motor in the IQ race chassis with Simmons suspension and the best after market modifications you can find. Best all around for sure

Elan Blizzard
1974 TNT
1979 Blizzard 7500 Plus
Phazer
First Indy
1993 XLT
2003 Vertical Escape

AC Cheetah (with the first slide rail suspension)
Raider (I still want one of those)
Indy Cross Country
Phazer (had 2)
Prowler (have 2)
XLT
Summit (tippy-est pieces of crap I've ever seen)
Blade
Rev
Snowhawk
RX-1
2-Moto (like to own one someday)

time

time is the real ? every year becomes more advanced, and earlier just advancing in one area- just making everything work togather to now when theres a most innovative mountain sled, and a more innovative trail sled, and a more innovative race sled, more high hp sled... i like the grand touring air ride, ha ha. its like a harley bagger

what about the plus??? fastest, lightest... everybody had to have one

The 08,09 M1000 Sno Pro...has gotta be pretty mentionable cause it'll highmark any sled out there stock for stock no matter what year, brand, etc...
2nd place goes to phazer for sure...Thats what I learned to love snowmobiling on!!!
3rd ya gotta give to yamaha for the apex...Four stroke streetbike motor in a sled...Great idea, just still a little fat (heavy) for me....

A stock M8 huh, you need to get out more....

My vote - REV

Most inovative ?

I'd say the '84 Phazer was the cork yanker from the bottle of powder riding for consumers without resources to build a mod sled that worked in the back country. The evolution of phazer took more and more people into deeper mountain terrain that only veteran mountain riders were capable of before, at an affordable price. Basically it opened more eyes and sparked the fire of mountain riding technology. Yamaha hit the market with the first reliable power to weight chassis that ended up WORKING in the deep snow for a production sled despite their worthless stock track. I still can't believe the places we made it through with a track lug measuring under an inch.
In my eyes, this sled benchmarked the riding material we point to the peaks in this modern day cult of powder riding machines. A stock Phazer with a decent track can still hang with sleds far superior after date, only to fall out from since developed technilogy for king of the hill, so to speak. many more benchmarks have since been developed after this chassis, although I believe it set the fire. seen a lot of new country on my '84

How about the 1983 Indy 600 or the 1981
500 centurion with IFS?

The Centurian was awsome. There was one I can recall around our neighborhood back then. Followed it on many deep pow-pow rides with eather my 84 or 85 phazer. His wasn't stock though. Can't be for sure, thought it was heavier than my Fizzlers
