Not so much the mic as the radio itself. I ride with a big scary radio... way more than anyone really needs out there. I got a speaker-mic for it that lives on the shoulder of my pack, radio clips on the outside. A little hard to copy when the sled's running, but when that's quiet it's a good setup. Don't have to take my helmet off to use it either.
I believe most FRS radios have a connector for a speaker-mic, the generic ones are two connectors; one regular-size headphone jack and a slightly smaller one for PTT/mic spaced about 1cm apart.
Can also get helmet radio kits... they're a bit $ but they isolate the sound a lot better. I'm thinking about doing one but it's gotta interface to a VS connector.
