What front shocks for Nytro.

I am looking for better shocks for the front of my Nytro mountain.
Want good ride quality and adjustability
What shocks are recommended.

Do not want Floats.

Thanks.

Fox Float EVOLs or Ohlins, if you want the best. The EVOLs are the best of both worlds, lighweight with adjustable rebound and compression and they are worlds better than the standard floats. Only downfall is the price.

the float x is another shock to look at as well half way in between the evol and the standard float for around 850 . if you can wait elka is coming out with a line up of sled shocks this fall as well

Looking for the same for mine, but heard that Hygear can re-valve & re-spring the stock shocks so that they are better than Floats & much cheaper. Anybody alese heard of this?

Sounds like throwing good money at bad to me.....

just talked to the guys at zbroz racing they offer a whole front end with new a arms and triple rate rezzies for 1500$ ! sounds like a good deal to me

Zbroz racing

I was just on Zbroz racings web page today. May have to look in that direction. I have Standard floats on it right now. Just not good enough for how fast the Nytro can go through the moguls.

When I talked to them last week they had the stock width a-arms in stock, wider were being made at the time. Not sure if there shocks are in stock. The guy I talked to said that they will utilize the stock ball joints. Would be a perfect time to change the design to incorporate a better ball joint design.

I have seen MOB's shocks (Zbroz off of a cat), best looking shocks I have ever seen. Big shafts, big rezzis, and big lines connecting the rezzis (very important!) too. I would go that route for shocks in a heart beat.

Nothing on their web site for Yamaha sleds at all yet.
They haven't updated there site since the fall, see MOB's post.... lol

they had 43 inch a arms in stock , didnt ask really about the shocks . there thinking of making a set with diffrent ball joints and the same geometrey as the 09 nytros , i think ill wait and get one of those if they do end up making them

All this chat got me going again...called Zbroz and the fellas are zeroing in on it sounds like.

They are aware of all the stock weaknesses (ball joints, bushings, geometry, etc) and after talking with them it sounds like they are on the way to resolving them.

Personally I'd like to see a 41" center...43" spindles make loading/transport an issue...particularly if you run the GenII Simmons. Suppose you could shim them inside the 43" spindles to get back there, but still may be too wide with wide skis. Handling with the wider kits isn't the issue...I've ridden a 46" wide M-Sled and it handled and sidehilled awesome...it's about transport (well, and sometimes the space between the trees...;))

I would like to see a full system replacement - improved chromo arms/geometry; billet spindles; oilite bushings; good ball joints; and of course their shocks. Best out there...better than Ohlins IMO...and Ohlins are a great shock.

FWIW

I agree MOB. I think widening the Nytro out will really help the twitchiness and the handling. I have been running wider M sleds for years and the sidehilling is as good as your skis are. The stock front shocks are junk (to stay on topic). We have had good results with Ohlins, and floats. Find some used floats on the classifieds. Same shock as the M7-M1000 use. You will need the bushings from Yamaha, out of the RTX. Change the oil and rock. I have seen used sets going for $300-500 per pair. That would be the most economical.

I had floats on my Nytro. Inorder to keep the ride height from sagging too far down, I had to have the floats pressures high. This made the ride very hard. If I let the air out to soften them up a little, they were too soft and did not utilize the full suspension travel and the really dipped in the corners. Also want compression and dampening control without having to have them revalved for different conditions.

I bought a set of Ohlins from MOB. They have rezzis, compression and rebound clickers.

I XC race my Nytro and the stock, double clicker, piggyback GYT-R shocks, revalved by Carver Performance are really good. Stock they were too soft but after revalving they are like completely different shocks, the clickers make a huge difference and they work well. I would guess you could get a pair off eBay for cheap, have them shortened for the mountain front end and revalved and get a great front end for a reasonable cost. My two cents.
