What does a 800 CFI motor sell for?

My '13 pro now has about 2800 miles on it, so I'm thinking the motor may go at any time. When it does I'm thinking I will have the shop pull the stock motor and have them rebuild it under warranty while I have them install a new big bore.

How much could I expect to sell the the rebuilt motor for to offset the new BB? Opinions

Do You mean how much could you sell the monoblock and pistons for?

Most big bores I think you either get the top half of the crank housing machined and/or get modified monoblock, pistons and head if you choose.

I don't want to be down for 1-2 weeks when it finally starts snowing, so I was hoping to eliminate as much of the down time as possible by having the shop pull the stock motor when it fails and install a rebuilt engine that already has a BB. Then have the stock motor fixed under warranty and sell the entire motor.

Just wondering why you think your motor may go at any time?

The motor currently has 2800 miles, and if it ever snows this winter I will ride another 2500 miles this season. I'm curious to see how long it does last, but I know it won't make it til spring.

I know, I could spend my own coin and have the top end rebuilt, but frankly I don't trust the bottom to make it 6000+ miles. Plus, I want Polaris to have to pay their share. :)

Polaris pay their share?? We all pay that next year in the price of the new sled. I don't get why it is expected to get Polaris to pay for a motor that needs to be rebuilt. Piston and rings are wear parts. They wear out. I understand some of them go much sooner than they should!! IMO- 2500 miles- you got at least what is expected out of that motor. Maybe I am all wet and have no clue- if so- sorry for my 2 cents.

I can see your argument, however the warranty is prepaid by all of us as it is built into the price of the sled. The people who ride a lot are always subsidized by the low mileage sleds........... thanks for that! :)

well figure a takeout freshened motor, maybe 2500-3000 with all the fuel system ect, hard to get more than that, its still used even tho rebuilt. id figure around 7500-9000 for a good big bore (having to buy a new 800 to begin with+ cost of the bigbore kit and labor) by the time your done with the whole mess. :face-icon-small-coo

The fuel system would have to stay to run the new motor. Interesting that you think of a completely rebuilt motor as used? :)

I will have to inquire if either of the 2 builders I am considering even have a complete motor with a BB available. It may be that is not even an option.:noidea:

A completely rebuilt motor is still a used motor no matter how you look at it. A new motor is brand new from factory.

are you saying that you wanna buy a engine and send it off to get it BB
then when your stock engine blows you'll drop it off at the dealer long enough for it to be reported to polaris and then go get it and drop the BB in while polaris and the dealer work out warranty coverage on the stock engine
then what ? am i following this correctly ?
ok i reread you wanna sell the rebuilt stock warranty engine

hmm.... so these are the kind if thought you might wanna keep to yourself i hope your dealer doesn't follow you on here and i guess why would they you can't be friends
GOOD LUCK
p.s. if i have some how mixed up the story then i appoligize

I'm not sure why anyone would have any problem with it. Polaris has the responsibility to fix the motor under warranty, what I do with it after it is repaired is my business, not the dealer or polaris! Why you think otherwise is baffling.

polaris has the responsibility to fix your STOCK sled and return it back to STOCK, call your dealer and see what they say.

I don't see how you think anyone is being injured in this scenario?

If the motor goes down Polaris has a responsibility to repair it, so they pay to have the motor removed and repaired, I pay to have a BB motor installed. The dealer gets paid, and polaris saves money because they didn't have to pay the labor costs to install the stock motor.

Polaris has a responsibility to repair the motor, as my property I have the right to decide if it is re-installed.

The motor belongs to me so I get to do with it whatever I want after it is repaired!

ok is the sled still under warrenty? if so they the sled would still need to be under warrenty after the new engine is installed. why would polaris let something be installed that would void warrenty? i worked for several years at an auto dealer and we would have never done that. thats why i said call your dealer. id be interested to see what they say.

also then you may run into the problem of the dealer not installing something that they sell. because if the dealer installs something you brought in who are you going to go after? most likely the dealer, whether or not its actually their fault.

In my scenario it is a win win for Polaris, they don't have to pay installation costs and won't have any future liability for the motor. So what could they complain about?

Versus paying to fix and re-install the motor and have future liability for the motor until the warranty expires, seems like a good deal for them!

You would think. But as a company I bet they would prefer everyone kept there sleds stock

If I brought them a BB crate motor, then their only responsibility would be their installation as that would be the only thing I paid for.
