Now that I have the turbo I'll put my 162 on it. As it is, a rough weight measurement puts it just over 400.

Not sure, piped and without the turbo it's only like 90. Hopefully with the turbo I'm at 130 ish. Lightened, and with the 144 it would hang pretty well with the larger sleds like the modded mountain max burried in the first picture so I'm expecting it will do quite well. My plans are to swap in a Vmax 600 engine over the summer. At 12 lbs of boost those will produce about 162 hp so it should go pretty well once that's done. All in all I don't think it's going to go around showing up newer sleds, it's just been a fun and cheap project for me.

Hey Chazzer, was yours turbo'd? I'm trying to find a little more info on this turbo kit I've got. It was made by first choice turbos out of NY and I'm sure it was quite a while ago.

Tested it today and boy does it rip! The first thought that went through my head was I'm going to need a better brake. I've been toying with the idea of a polaris hydraulic setup converted to work. Also I had geared it down previously for the 144" track and I think I'm going to have to gear it back up to gain some track speed. As it is it spins the track like crazy.

I only built it up to 5.6 lbs of boost but I only ran it for a short time, exhaust temps only maxed just under 1100 too. I'm sure I could lean it out but I like the idea of running it rich for long-gevity.

There doesn't seem to be any turbo lag, it just feels like a normal sled for the first second, then it pulls like crazy. It doesn't sound much different. If you're listening carefully you can hear the blow off valve but other than that it sounds like a normal sled. I know it's dumb but I love the sound of a BOV so I might try to find another thats more audible.

All in all this thing is making one crazy sleeper, I got a lot of funny looks in the parking lot today.

Now it's time to polish and clean this baby up.

Help me out with air filter ideas. What do you guys think would be best, one that is on top of the hood just sticking up or one that is behind the panel in front of your right knee?

I'd try to keep it tucked under the hood for the sleeper look. Then again, I know I'd be thinking "WTF?" if I saw an Exciter with an air filter sticking out of the hood and I'd have to check it out for sure :D

what the extra stuff under the hood, elbow, battery ?

cool though, i think keep it as a sleeper, but with the tall bars ands brain boxs on em, i think they mught figure it out,
:beer;:D

The elbow was the intake from the old engine, I'm not sure I'm going to use it since there's no filter, the battery is part of the kit, it supplies extra juice to the fuel pump to keep it from overloading the stator when the pump kicks on. I just hadn't mounted it before I took the pictures. This setup uses a secondary fuel pump piggy backing the first to supply extra pressure when the turbo spools.

As far as the filter goes I've got to get it out from under the hood into some cold fresh air. I was thinking I could route it out the panel inf front of the right leg, there's a lot of extra room there since your leg really never gets that close to the panel. I would have to move the coolant fill cap and hoses and some other stuff though.

I like that!! I wouldn't clean it up too much, something about an older, dirty sled beating up on the shiny new big $$ stuff. Nice project :beer;

Nice job. I've got a 95 model 600 with a 97 exhaust manifold and fat pipe. Complete, carbs, recoil, air box, etc. Runs great. Parting out sled. 500.00 you pay freight. I'm in Utah. Zip code 84745. PM or call 435-215-8149.

Yeah? Well, believe me, right now it really looks like a turd. Half the hood is screwed together with metal brackets and my home-made riser is starting to rust.

I sent you a pm lone rider.

nothing like a old relick spanking all the new sleds! lol.your going to turn a few heads when you kick there butts.

what a sleeper. thats one odd looking turbo

It's an aerodyne 53 series, they're pretty popular, you'll see some around. They're a variable vane style (whatever that means) so they don't have a wastegate, they're also self lubricating so you don't have to plumb oil lines.
