What are your favorite gloves for Boondocking?

We were riding in some pretty good snow the other day with some rather challenging riding conditions. I was having a heck of a time hanging on to the bars with my large warm gloves on so I swapped to my mechanics gloves.

Once I had the mechanics gloves on, getting a good grip on the bars was no longer a problem. Then slowly my hands started getting cold because the deep snow was melting on the gloves so I turned up the handwarmers all the way and it helped but the backs of my hands were still cold. I know you're thinking a whinny sniveling SOB right about now but......................

There must be some gloves light enough to allow you to grip the bars effectively and still warm enough for whinny SOBs like me? I'm looking for something lightly insulated, waterproof (not water resistant) and with a very tacky palm surface.

I did a little research and it sounds like the True North Adventure Storm Gloves are a favorite of many. I plan to buy a pair shortly.

The other glove that sounds like what I am looking for is the Klim Inversion gloves. I plan to buy a pair of these too.

These two sound like the best I have found so far.

I plan to do some more research on the Cold Wave Snow Ice gloves, the Katahian Tribute gloves and the RU Outside Sonic and K Dog gloves.

What are your favorite gloves for boondocking and climbing and why?

Thanks

Frosty

I use Fox Thermal Paws, has exactly what you are talking about. The back of the hand material is a neoprene so it blocks the wind and water super good, then the palms are a leather similar to their moto gloves. My hands stay super warm with these even without hand guards on the sled yet. Only down side is the palms to get wet when you are digging people out, but throw the heaters on hi and you are still good to go.

Frosty I got the Klim inversions and the powerxross I think that is what they are.. I like the inversions they keep my hands warm and wont slip off the end...:D Boondocking. The powerx i wear when it is just frickin cold. One of my friends has the true north and he says his hands never get cold?? :D:D You are on the right track..

I used hmk's gloves last year and really liked them they are like dirt bike gloves with neoprene on the outside for warmth

I always ride in the thinnest gloves possible and was thinkin about getting mechanics cold weather gloves for this year cause I have not found the hmks locally

Really like my Klim Inversion gloves. I always used RU outside gloves in the past, but the Klim glove seems to keep my hands a bit warmer and I just like the way they feel better.........

A buddy of mine just got a pair of Iron Clad mechanics gloves. They are wind/water proof and have great bar traction. He said his hands were warm and dry all day. We were riding in waist deep powder @ 20deg. all day and he was the only one who didn't end up with wet hands.

K-Dog from R U Outside work well but the old Mechanix gloves are still the gold standard.

Hands down favorite is the Storm Glove, from True North Gear. 100% waterproof and windproof, thin, warm (says good to -20 I think, but I've never gotten cold hands). I've had the wind blow so bad that the tips of every finger were ice balls and my hands were still warm and dry. Gotta love 'em!

That's right, I did hear from the gentleman putting on the riding clinic for us the other day (Nitrodoo?) that he was using and loves the Iron Clad gloves. I had personally never heard of them so I forgot the name until you brought it up.

If you going to buy two pairs of gloves for boondocking (both different brands) what would they be?

These are great tips. Keep them coming guys.

Merry Christmas!

I also use the Fox thermal paws, and this year am trying FXR's adreanaline glove - like them equally. Neoprene on the back of the hand, fit snugly, and excellent grip and mobility. I only use the heavier gloves on the trail up to the alpine now. Try either, you'll like em.

cheap polar fleece gloves I buy them at our oxarc welding supply store $5.00 a pair take two pair. not water proof but keep hands warm when wet just dont take them of and let them freeze. if they do freeze and hand are getting cold put on the other pair. they work great and you can hold on good.

Agreed, Ironclad Tundra gloves are waterproof, have a grippy palm and fingers, and keep your hands warm very well. Two of our group use 'em with no complaints whatsoever. Here is a link... https://www.ironclad.com/www/productDetail.jsp?prodID=148&catID=44

Thanks for the link.

I see there are the gloves you mention;

The Tundra for $69.99

The Cold Condition Waterproof for $39.99

The Cold Condition - Cold Condition for $31.99

The Cold Condition Summit for $19.99

All appear to be waterproof but the Summit model. Yet it is still recommended for winter resort work.

I see the Tundra has a gauntlet around the wrists.

I'm thinking maybe a pair of Tundras for the ride in and home from the play areas and a pair of Cold Condition waterproofs for playing on the hill?

I'm SO confused.......................

TNA storm. Love the thin glove to grip the bars, wind proof waterproof. I really like the leather palm for durability also.

i like my castle ones that i have... dont remember the name but they work pretty good. one set that i have that i like to use on really cold days are a set that i got from some snowboard shop. i think they are by drop or something like that. they have neoprene to them and a grippy palm and fingers to them and had lense cleaners on both hands. for $25 i cant complain about them.

I use the same ones. They work great.
