What are the nessecary mods on an Xp

I am picking up my new 163 xp next week. I plan on leaving the sled mostly stock but want the sled to work properly. my riding is 99% trees and hillclimbing. What are the must do mods???

Vent kit, clutching, quick clicker, can (if you want to lose 10lbs), clutch tower brace, storage of some type(bar riser bag for me), billet deflection adjuster.

Enjoy your new sled...XP's rock!

I would recommend the new skidoo deflection adjuster over any of the others. Skidoo has made the new one low profile and works great. And they only cost 30 bucks. All the others are large and they tear up the side panel. As for the clutch kit. PM a guy on here called winter brew. He so far has been great to deal with. Super fast response if you have any questions and really seems to know his stuff. Other than that, have fun....

snow fall has been a little short so far. go with a belly pan (rpm makes a good set up. definately vents. jc custom vents are a nice set up. sharp lookin too. only got 4 hrs on my xp so far, but what a blast. definately happy with it. keep the shiny side up.

thanks for the input

Thanks for the input. sounds like the clutch area is the big thing. Does anybody run the extremevents they look like they would hold up to the tree branches the best?

First Things First

Clean clutch and belt. If you have clutch tools disassymble the primary clutch and thouroghly wash with warm soapty water, dry. Use scotchbright on the sheeve faces in a circular pattern even if you cannot take apart the clutch. Wash and air dry the belt also. No lubricants whatsoever.

Skidplate is a must. Check to make sure you have the #9 spark plugs, not #10's. Ride until your 10hr check before thinking about any further changes. Get then engine lossened-up and through the ECM detune time period first. Althoug you don't hear it much on SW the 09 clutching is getting good reviews elsewhere. Don't get wrapped up in all the talk on these websites, everyone has something to sell. Until your machine has been broken in and the snow conditions get better you will just be spinning your wheels. Spend your 10 hrs trying different suspension setting and get that dailed-in first.

After that you may want to look into getting better air circulation onder the hood, no somuch because the clutch needs it as the engine and clutch together like cold air.

As a final note I doo agree that a MuffPot/HotPot is a must. Also a VMI tunnel rack, Snobungi bad and generic gas can.

There is one thing that nobody has brought up. Storage! There really is no place to store anything on an XP, so my vote for one of the top mods is to install a tunnel-rack/bag combo.

free things first! Remove plastic tool holder and store tools somewhere else...that thing really blocks air flow. Remove plastic part of the belt gaurd. some say this lets the side panel come into contact with the cluch but that this is also blocking way too much airflow!! remove the underhood foam. remove all the ugly warning stickers. set up suspension for your liking, along with the handlebars.
