What Age?

I would base my decision on the maturity level of the kid. I've rode with an eleven year old who could ride better than many of the grown ups I've ridden with. He didn't whine or need any more care than a 40 year old man. I've also ridden with 11 year olds that daddy had to baby sit all day long. The type where daddy had to wipe the kids nose, wipe his goggles, wipe his azz, you know the type. Once they become self sufficient they are not a problem for anyone, if you're going to take a whiner with a bunch of your sledding buddies he will be a problem for all. Some kids at age ten behave like they're 24, others behave like they're about 6, the parents need to be the judge. On the flipside, I've ridden with alot of 50 year olds that behave and whine like some 10 year olds. Good Luck with whatever you choose.

Depends on if he is an Alpha male, or Beta male, true as chit to his age. My 12y old son can ride and I don't doubt his skills as he is a leader and is like me, "alpha type." 2nd son is more laid back and takes an extra year or two to develop, his skills are lacking in his own abilities, "beta type." 3rd son will be exactly like first son and will excell in his abilities, might start 120 action by 3 which is earlier than first 2 sons. . .

IMO I wouldn't feel comfortable with any 10 year old. Bottom line they don't have the strength to get themselves out of a serious stuck situation with out help.

Hell AT, by that metric none of us would EVER ride with someone with a Yamaha!!

I think, as has been mentioned it depends more on the rest of the crew than on the kid.

If you're going to push hard, don't bring the kid. If you're ok with a sorta chill trip or you ride somewhere that you can do both, then go for it.

This is my son this winter at 10, he loves to go with the guys and they don't mind him going with us from time to time. We have to get him unstuck a lot when the snow gets deep, that is part of it. If there is 5 or 6 sleds the kids do just fine most of the time. So IMO get the little guys and gals out there as soon as you can, and get them hooked, so they can carry on the sport!!!
