Went to put on my helmet and gaaaaaaawdammmm!

I usually just spray some disinfectant deoderizer in my helmet once in a while but last spring I decided a good cleaning was in order and scrubbed it out with some rug doctor solution....Holy crap, Helmet smells like azz when I dug it out last night. What are you guys doing to clean your lids? Do some of you tear them down and clean them? If I dont get the smell outa here I will be selling a real nice used helmet;)

i like the smell, the smell of good times, but honestly, i just let mine air out plenty, maybe some disenfectant, take out the liner and wash it if its removable.

LOL! For sale: One nice used helmet, smells like azz.

Ive never cleaned mine. I think all of the dust from trail riding on dirt bikes absorbs the stink.

Pull the liner out, wash it in teh sink with some woolite, let it dry overnight, reinstall. Got sorta nasty last year on the warmer rides, i guess my head sweats a lot... learn something new every day...

A little funk I don't mind. I don't know that rug doctor would have been my first choice though.

helmet funk

wash your helmet with hot soapy water using normal dish soap and work the soapy bubbles into the liner, rinse and then air dry , also works good for blood , if u crash and need to clean helemt

WHATEVER you do, DO NOT USE FABREZE!!!!! I used it and when I sweated, the chemical ran down into my eyes and burned like crazy. Made navigating a b!tch.

Use mine year round as well, usally November..ish I rip the top rack out of the dishwasher and set the helmet on the bottom rack, then air dry when it's done, works great for me (no work involved) and it tends to pis the old lady off which is always fun!

if (when) I crash hard enough to draw blood, i'll just get a new helmet...

they're not made to be reuseable like that... one good wreck and they're done.

Can't say I'd use Rug Dr. on it, but I pull liner from time to time and rinse it, air dry and put back in. Always pull lid out of bag and store on rack when not in use. Never noticed any unusual "funk"

Use dryer sheets when I put it away, roomie got me doing it last year, Helmet always smells like fresh laundry.

Helmet azz

There is nothing worse than the smell of azz. Here are a couple of suggestions: 1. Put some newspaper in the helmet, along with some dryer sheets. 2. Get used to the azz smell. Good luck:)

I wear mine year round as well, but I do pull all the removable pieces out, wash them good with some light detergent (woollite?) and clean the rest of it as best as I can.

This is my 4th season with this helmet, I think if it doesn't start snowing soon, I will burn it as a sacrifice to the snow gods and go buy a new one.
