Got a couple booters ready to go, but wanted to build one that was less precise, one you can go 10 feet or 125 & it'll be pretty forgiving for Abby to go bigger & bigger.

started at 3:30 & got it done in about an hour or so.

I love timelapse ability in a camera!

Dude- that's a bit tedious.

You need one of these:

oh..... I'm sorry, what was that?????

Yeah, I'd be in heaven with one of those! On the other hand, it's just one more thing to fix!!! My buddy that's building a resort right now is constantly fixing his it seems.

got everything back on the snow kaleb? any plans for weekend riding?

Yeah, Brian tig'd a 1/4" plate on top of my tunnel/bulkhead for the steering post to sit on, then cut the post by 1/4" to keep everything at the same angle. It's been pounded a few times now & held strong, the bead he has on that looks better than the beads on th bulkhead itself, so I should be good.

Abby's sled is fixed aside from the hood, it was too far gone. not sure what I'm gonna do for the weekend for that.

I think you might get the idea of what we'll be doing this weekend!

well....
I went up today & built another booter, then broke my steering post off in my hands. Kinda F's my agenda for tomorrow, I even had my Keen rep coming up for photo work, he just bought my 40D & wanted to shoot my 50 to compare.

I might just ride my racer, but that's what I was going to have him ride.

I guess I should be glad it didn't happen tomorrow off a big hit.

Now I see. Never looked closely at the new post/bar setup cat's using. I see they use a straight bar now, instead of the old bars with some rise built in. Yeah, that's going to snap everytime, until you introduce some "give" to the equation. You need a riser that allows your bars to rotate forward when you bash them. The old cat bars have this geometry built in as long as you leave the bar clamp bolts loose enough for them to rotate under force. Look at a stock skidoo riser setup and it will become more clear what you need between the bars and the post.

we bent treeline's first day out just giving it a little tug when it was stuck. bent it with little effort. There is an aftermarket post that is supposed to be thicker and stronger. Not sure who makes it?

Yep PJ, that's the fancy adjustable system. Straight bar bolted to the post. Really makes you wonder about Cat, that they would put something out there that, basically, has failure built into it. They need an articulating riser in there that will give/rotate before the post breaks, or just throw on the old cat bars that have 6" of rise built in.

Brandon, imo, problem with a stronger post is you could end up with it inside your chest cavity or bust some ribs. I used to run mine all cranked down tight and it wouldn't budge. Lucky I didn't cave in my sternum on a few hits that bent the post. It's probably fortunate their adjustable will break off before that happens. You want your bars to get out of the way when you bash into them! I got a clue and backed off the clamping force on my old M riser bars. This allows the riser and bars to slip in the clamp and soak up the force. On a bad hit my bars slip in the clamps and will move up to 6". They don't move easy, but easy enough I don't lose my grip and that movement absorbs most of the force of the hit, thus saving my post. Now I just yank em back in place and go. Pol uses bars similar to the old "riser" cat bars (smart) and doo/yam have a big riser that will rotate in the clamp. I guess Cat's answer now, is to make a post weak enough it breaks before it damages the rider. Sells a lot of post for them too!!

Yep, the new fancy dancy ones!

Gotta agree with bushy, they need a setup with a fail point that isn't just the post failing!!

put an 07 that we had sitting in the shop in my sled today, still not pivot, but better than the 09!

Ready to go hit those lumps of snow I stacked up this week!!!

Hey, just wanted to mention:

I got a call from Mike at BD-X this last weekend, the steering post support he is making should help the weak post issue quite a bit, it should be a cheap part that is easy to slap on, just a wider clamp point for the plastic bushings that hold the post at the top of the hoop. This also should slow the wear issue that is caused by a single pressure point on those bushings, they get sloppy quick.

Got it back on the snow sunday moring, hit the jump once, short hit it to get a feel, about 45 feet, hit it again shooting for the landing (85-100 to sweet spot) and my left ski went high, sled went sideways & I threw my sled.

SOOOO, that post I just had put on saturday is toast, now waiting on the support from mike & the new post from cat.
Thanks MPM for getting me back on the snow so quick (even if I did trash it in under 1/2 hr!)

BD-X has some great solutions for these sleds, if you tell them aobut an issue or something you think might be improved, they'll fab something up & see if there's a market for it, GREAT company. They also stand behind their product unlike many aftermarket companies I've dealt with.

How fast do you go to clear 85-100'?

On a down hiller, not that fast, maybe 30? I had one a month ago or so that was fully tapped out for 200 yards, that was a puckerfest!

The hill that this hit is on is a light down hill, then takes a steeper turn after about 70 feet, a pretty easy clear & not really high consequence AS LONG AS YOU DON'T THROW YOUR SLED!!. Should have hit a few more shorts to be sure it felt right, jump was also still cold, so no give to it at all...DERR-de derr!!!

Gotta love a sled that can roll down an icy hill & just need a post though, not bad.

LOL ,could've been alot worse. Still have to take out the motor to replace the post ...right?

Who is MPM, did they do your porting?
