Water in the ECM connection? SKi doo guys help!

Hey I'm wondering if anyone out there has had electrical issues with the ECM on 06 ski doo's I've heard of it and used dielectric grease and electrical tape to try and keep the water out of my connection but I'm nervous. I heard ski doo makes a waterproof cover for it too, I'm nervous my fix isn't gonna work, anyone got any good fixes for it. It's gonna be good tommorow and I want my sled to work.

Thanks.

The 07 had the ECM in the same dumb place but came with a rubber cover.Fill it up with dielectric grease,or do what alot of people did was to move it back on top of the oil reservoir where they put them in 04 and 05.You can also mount it under the console.Just have to make a bracket,there is lots of harness to move it.This alows you to get rid of the mounting shield and get more airflow to the clutches.:beer;:beer;

Thanks for the advice... I might have to try that when I've got some more time. For tommorow I'm hoping that my dielectric grease and electric tape works, It seems to be idling fine now again but my odometer is still not working or lighting up. I'm wondering if this is a related issue. do you know if the ECM has anything to do with the odometer?

I'd use vacuum grease, if you have any available. A little stiffer than dielectric grease, and it'll do a hell of a job keeping water out.

I packed that stuff into BNC connectors when we tested blast ballasts on USN subs. It works.

vaseline
tape it up
put some tape under your hood by the headlight so the water wont fall off the light right onto the computer.

mines ran like that for a good 3 seasons

If the ECM gets wet, can it get messed up for good?

also does the ECM have anything to do with the odometer, my odometer quit working, and isn't lighting up at all but the tach still works...

It can corrode the pins inside if moisture is in there too long. I had that problem with my 07, and it was cutting out really bad in powder. I dried them out, filled them with dielectric, and eventually sealed up the outside cracks (kinda tough, probably didn't get them all but it was worth a try) with silicone. I also moved it up several inches, just mounted it on the braces under the headlight. I then found out water had gotten in my plug caps and corroded them and that was causing the cutting out. Replaced and sealed with dielectric and no problems since.

i tried putting a crapload of dielectric grease and i looked to see how easily it would be to move the ecm, but i think ill have to look at an earlier rev to see where to put it. i put some grease in the spark caps as well, but my odometer is still not operating...

Keep it simple

ECM Cover.jpg

I used a waterproof gasket material bolted to the ECM. It has worked fine for 2 years

I used a GORTEX material, it is almost indestructible, thankfully I never had to buy it;) Plastic IMHO would be a mistake.

I just moved it from the front cross member to the top of the oil tank it even has hold down tabs. Its where skidoo used to put the mpem. The ECM is smaller than the old MPEM so i made a little aluminim box that cliped into the oil tank tabs and rivited the ecm in it. Covered the bottom of the box w/ weather stripping and clipped it in. Theres plenty of wire to reach it, might just have to reroute it a bit.

I just copied Popps idea.I got a piece or flexable plastic and used the exsisting holes on the bottom of the ECM...fastened it there and used duct tape to fasten it under the light.I havent tried it out yet but i think it should work great.I didnt think it would get that hot being up that high to melt plastic??Thanks again Popps for the great idea:beer;
