Wasington Sledders Legislature Reaching for Your Wallet

Umm....the vast majority of sledders have been begging for this for years.

This quote is the one I was looking for stats on Winterbrew. I would be curious what a survey statewide would reveal. Not on Snowest. We (on WA Snowest Forum) are predominantly upper middle class westsiders.

Which statement? That it costs more?.....really??? Look at fuel prices alone in the last 10+ years.
Sledders wanting this?? That goes back to some of the earliest Puyallup snoshows when we voted on this topic as we entered the door at the WSSA booth....that must have been 15 years ago or more as that was the show where I saw the original Simmons ski for the first time. And it's not until NOW that an increase has taken place.
If you think we can make it on what we have, please go to the WSSA meeting and show them how it can be done....get up in front of everyone and tell them they are wrong. Are you willing to do that??

I have said many times that I understand the need for an increase in fees and I will pay it because I can afford it and its not worth getting a ticket.

And YES. I think we can make it on our own. I rode for years and know of people that rode for years before me with out Snowparks and plowed parking with honeybuckets. It can be done. I dont need all this crap. Is it a viable solution at this time probably not. I DON'T support that whole idea of paying to access public land but I do it because we don't have a majority to stand up and fight.

As i have said previously, Its not fair that someone licensing a sled that doesn't purchase a Snowpark pass is going to pay an extra $20 for NOTHING. Oh wait, he will pay the extra fee so that others can utilize Snowparks and groomed trails. Screw him because my family doesn't like riding whoops...is essentially what is happening.

You all think this will make everything good and all will be happy for another ten years?

Just keep shelling out your cash and keep you eyes closed.

Dreamers.

with the Forest circus and the current administration writing the new rules for snowmobile use the only place you will be able to get off trail will be your back yard... Snowmobiling in the West RIP

So then we don't have to buy tabs because we will be poaching (public land)! Now that sounds like fun! I smell a revolt!

wtf

Are you all liberal democrats or just blinded by your love for the sport. Of course its not a lot of money. But that is what they say to every single tax/fee hike. It just 1%. Its just 3%.

ya i am the most liberal self employed gun hating person on the planet..

and you????????

A survey was done last year by State Parks with a post card going out to all the registered snowmobiles in Washington asking them to go to a website to complete a survey and Winterbrew is probably talking about the results from that survey which showed what the snowmobilers wanted. You should be able to read about the results in one of your last season's WSSA Snoflyer.

It is that kind of information that WSSA has to use to initiate the registration fee increase. Trying to keep everything factual when presenting to legislators. The system was set up years ago so it wouldn't be too easy to increase registration fees. It has to have support of snowmobilers, it has to be presented to the legislators, it has to be approved by legislators who hear from their constituents. It is a good checks and balance system to keep the registration fees reasonable.

The last fee increase was in 2001 and then gas was $1.52 a gallon and diesel was under $0.90 for off road diesel for groomers. Look how it has changed. Gas has over doubled and diesel has over tripled while the fee has remained the same. Nobody can seriously say that the state hasn't done everything to keep the costs down.

As Jetjohnson always says the money is going to our grooming and plowing program not to the state general fund or WSSA would not be working with the legislators to get it done.

I am willing to pay

I recently got back into the sport and have been amazed at the number of resources we have. The fact that we are still doing it with the same funding model established 10+ years ago is amazing.
I also have a ton of respect ad appreciation for the people that volunteer tons of time to keep the trails open and programs going. I personally think we get a ton of value from a relatively small fee. I just want to ride my sled and have fun with friends and family.

The many SnoParks give me a predictable, efficient, and more secure launch and return point. The time I save ='s more quality time on my sled.

The hundreds or maybe thousands of miles of groomed trails get me to the good snow faster and they get me back to the truck faster and safer. This ='s more quality time on my sled in the better snow.

I think anyone who wants to ride whoops all season to save $20 has lost perspective. I try not to let my distaste for the state legislator and politicians taint the value of what we are getting.

if you are educated about the cituation you will know there is not enough money, we have a great person on our side who deals with this and knows what is going on, that is Dan Johnson, I have had several conversations with him about this. How far do you think $30 gets a groomer? maybe a mile. 2 at the most. Go to the groomers meetings and talk to the forest service that is there. they are not against us. But most who complain about it just sit here and do that. common sense says you need more money for grooming and plowing. we have a lot of snow parks in WA. if we don't get the money they will be going away

If a person doesnt use Snowparks, what "value" will the person see with a registration fee increase of $20?

WaBackcountry ill pay the extra $20 for you the first year. Maybe we can hold a concert to raise funds for you after that. Lol. You are the lone voice of opposition on this issue over and over. The voice of the people have spoken and we want to pay more. Btw, I'm about the most anti govt, freedom loving, gun owner hard core right winger you will meet.

I have already said I will pay the $20 and I will buy a Snowpark permit. I am also a WSSA member.

Pay to play. Brandywine up in B.C. is a good example of what fees can do. $20.00 per sled.

then quit your b!tching!!!

For one, what the hell does this have anything to do with a Cat guy from the Midwest?

And if you think what I am doing is bitching then you haven't comprehended a single thing I have said.

Go home flatlander. Bring something of substance if you ever comeback.

Its $150 for a year membership at Brandywine/Powder Mtn. That fee goes to a private club like the WSSA.

Which is still $100 less than the registration increase would be after two years. And that is only good for ONE area, unlike here which is good for the entire state.
I guess I can understand not being happy about paying separately for a Snowpark parking pass, but unless you ONLY ride from your private property, it seems rather short-sighted. But that part of the proposal seems to be dead right now, so arguing about it is a moot point.
