Another reason Washington State DOT has gotten away from using sand due Endangered Species Act. The sand gets in the creeks and rivers and then clog the gills of the salmon or the salmonaids which are either threatened or endangered. However, the MgCl2 is 'burning' the evergreens next to the highway. Nothing significant but noticable.
