Was I in the wrong? Yelling at hockey ref.

Ok my son is a traveling squirt. We had a Jackson Hole tournament a couple weeks ago. One of the Jackson kids was HUGE! He kept high sticking and slashing our much smaller kids. I was getting livid because it wasn't being called and it was getting worse. I hate Jackson, they always have the "HOMETOWN" ref.

Well eventually after going uncalled for numerous instances...the same kid hit one of our kids in the throat with his stick. Our kid went down like a sack of potatoes. I was livid and so was another hockey mom! WOW, if she was single! haha nevermind. The announcer said we have a kid down and the rink was quiet. The hockey mom was stomping on the seats and yelling....then the I yelled at the ref and told him this was his fault that we have a kid hurt on the ice. He stared me down and I told him, ya you heard me genius! I realize I may not have set a good example for the kids, but the ref caused this...our kid was seriously hurt because he failed to do his job.

I don't care about stupid calls that don't affect the safety of the kids, but when our kids can or do get seriously hurt because of the incompetence of the refs...I lose it. That fat tard better be glad I couldn't come onto that rink when he stared me down....I better be glad to...I was HOT.

Well now I have a reputation as one of those parents. But, many parents were happy that I confronted the douche ref like that.

Anyways, I guess my biggest concern is the kids....my kid....I don't want to teach him disrespect of authority, but I always want to teach him to stand up for injustices that harm people.

Let me know what ya think...and douche bag liberals stay away. I only want to talk to my conservative brothers.

By the way....the refs called EVERY high stick or slash after that! Including the rest of the games in the tournament with different teams and refs. So my being a d*ck may have prevented other kids being hurt by that cheap little chit or should I say big chit.

Unfortunatley, I dont hink your yelling had anything to do with the outcome of the officiating. It had more to do with the fact that someone got hurt. Doesnt make it right though! I think I would have jumped the boards and take the guy out!!

g*ddamm right you have the right to yell and scream, not only that but pull your kid out of the game..I'd have been hot too, and I'd have pulled my kid out the game and told other parents on your team why you did it in hope they do likewise.

Your coach should have been yelling and screaming too, and stopped the game with calls (or lack of) liek that, I'd have givin him a what for too

police might have had to escort me out lol

when it comes to the safety of your child you are the one that has the ultimate and last say.

Been there done that. Makes you wonder why the opposing team can't see stuff like that. I coached my sons team (like alot of Dad's) if I ever had a kid on my team acting up he saw the bench (for a long time) till he saw the error of his ways. Yeah, took lots a sh!t from parents on my own team, but they came around when they realized it was all about the kids having a good time. There is lots of time for the physical aspect of the game to be brought in, but when they are small it is all about having fun. Good luck with it, maybe a chat with the opposing teams coach would help too. Sounds for sure that the ref was a dick, but welcome to minor hockey.

There is nothing wrong with barking at the referee. We now live in an over regulated society where we are all suppose to be statues in the stands without an opinion. We actually have rules of behavior in our high school gyms, if you don't behave the way the school board thinks you ought to you get a yellow card and get ejected. How the F#*K did this ever come to be. Let'em have it when they deserve it, if I get ejected it won't hurt my feelings any. Just be careful not to be a chronic whiner.

Just MPS posting this thread tells me he's not the cronic whiner type

sick em MPS!

Thanks bros! I just needed a little validation. Yes, I was pretty pissed at our coaches too! They never get upset...well one guy does when he is there. He is a stud and gets the kids fired up to play. He does bark at the refs...but the other coaches and director discourage that. If I am in that situation again my son will be pulled from the game. I love good ol fashioned tough hockey...I have a real problem with cheap chicken sh*t hockey. Glad to see there are no hippy feel good posts on here! hehe

Oh ya some Jackson hockey fans told me to calm down. I had to leave the stands and go for a walk. Then it was my turn to stare down the Jackson fans as I walked by....I was hoping one of them would have followed me outside! haha

Yup pretty f*cked up that it took a kid getting hurt for them to start calling it! A f*cking retarded donkey could have seen the high sticking.

I would have lost my job if I attacked the lard a$$ ref....but it was SO SO tempting brotha! That is why I went for the walk...so I wouldn't do something dumb when that fat a$$ ref stared me down and the Jackson fans started mouthing off to me!

I'm not a liberal but I've got to reply to this thread. The reason that there are rules for people in the stands is because there have been physical confrontation between parent spectators and refs, or spectators and coaches, or spectators and actual playerss at all kinds of sporting events from T-ball to High school football. Come on people if you don't like how a game is being called, or how a coach is coaching go apply for the job yourself. A lot of these positions are volunteer (no pay). They are thankless jobs that nobody wants because of parents. I coached 3 years of Little league when my son was a kid. And now that I have a grandson I have been asked to coach again. My response, NO THANK YOU! let the ones that think they can do a better job do it. Same goes for refing. The thing that people need to remember is that the ref more than likely does not have a son or daughter in the game and also is seeing the game in a whole differant view than the parent. I also think that the way the hockey games were called after the injury has more to do with the injury than the stare down. JMHO

I don't think you are a liberal for that view....that is a good argument. However, I am not one of those people that whine about all the calls. I don't start confrontation about stupid calls. I do get livid when kids get hurt because of the officiating. ...and no every ref in hockey is paid by USA Hockey and they have to pass officiating courses, etc. All of these coaches except for Idaho Falls and Salmon are paid coaches...unethical as hell in my opinion. As stated, we have had problems with Jackson refs.....and a retarded donkey could see this kid high sticking. But these certified refs couldn't? BS!

Like I said I don't have a problem with your argument, in fact I agree with it in most circumstances and I coach my son's baseball and football. I will not sit there like a bump on a log when kids are being seriously hurt because some a$$hole is not calling sh*t because he is a friend of the team or a buddy of a dad....and I don't think you are a liberal. LOL

Man, I dont know if I would have been able to walk away! Good for you. I have an 11 year old daughter, and I grew up playing hockey. If I ever saw someone putting her life in danger like that i would have kicked his A$$ up and down the ice. Especially if it were her that got sticked!!

Ive seen guy's in the stands *****in for no reason but if theres reason then go get em!!

Jackson Hole, WY .... Remember folks, it's not an 82XXX zip code, it's actually 90210 :o

Yeah, I'd say you were in the right.

If your kid is a squirt I am guessing the kid reffing the gam was maybe 2 or 3 years older than the kids who were actually playing.

Were the other kids parents in the audience just keeping quiet?

If I'd had been pulling **** like that kid was I'd have been benched by the coach then probably got my *** kicked by my dad after the game even

haha no doubt! 90210! LMAO...so true! No kids don't ref in the travel tournies. They were adults and the guy I am talking about is about my age. He had a heavy goatie ans was a fat boy.

Get in touch with this guy:
Montana - Dustin Thompson - dustpan10@hotmail.com ...he is the USA Hockey Affiliate Referee in Chief for Montana.

File a complaint and let him know what is going on. He will have a record of who reffed and lined for the game. I know if I let the players get away with that here in SD, I would have a call from the Chief Ref before I got home from the rink.

Thanks SMB! However, Jackson Hole is in WY. Is he the regional rep?

If not, does the USA Hockey website list the WY one?

I didn't even think about calling USA Hockey about that.

That makes a hell of a lot of sense.

You could probably just call the Casper Ice Arena and ask them, I'd be surprised as hell if the cheif ref for Wyoming didn't live in Casper.

Some days I wish Jackson Hole would just seceed from Wyoming and the US  Full of ignorant people during the right months.
