Wait for 2014 or get a 2013 m1100t?

After some serious consideration of sled I have decided to get a Cat. (I was also looking at Polaris but the latest RMK is giving me serious concerns with reliability beyond 2 years) I am pretty well settled on getting an m1100 turbo pending a test ride in a week or so. I will also be driving an m800. I am favoring the M1100 turbo for reliability reasons and the continued power at altitude.

Obviously the dealer is pushing to get me to buy their 2013 stock now and I can't blame them and they have made a great offer. But I also don't want to miss out on next years goodies if there are substantial changes in the works.

Everywhere I have looked however is hinting at big changes on the 2 stroke end and not a lot about the 1100's. I am hoping to start a conversation on what might really happen in the next year so I can make the call.

So, what do you guys think Cat will really improve upon in 2014? Major problems in the 2013 line I should be aware of? All comments and concerns appreciated.

See Post #19 for my absurd hypothetical

See Post #21 on why I won't be getting one.....nothing to do with the sled itself

Personal Location changed to the absurd to aboid this turning into a smear campaign, not my goal I'm just venting.

I think the '13 is a good sled. I wish I had one.

I can't see any big changes in the 1,100 coming for next year.

I think you will be surprised what the stock 800 will do. Its a whole different animal with that track. You wont lose any power at higher elevations if you turbo a m800 too you know :face-icon-small-win. lol

I personally am not a fan of the 1100. Way to heavy for what i do. But if what they are saying about the 2014 is true (DI 800) thats almost worth the wait. So far my 2013 has had no problems even with the turbo. It does tend to go through belts just as bad as my 2012 but i have a white rad ttcf on the way and it sound like thats the fix.

If you thinking of the 2014 800- always best to give it a year on the snow- there will be recalls and updates.
Something to consider...
The New XM has had it fair share of Storm like recalls.

Just a thought of want you want-- the T11000 is solid! and turn the key and go-- reliable HP..
$12K + for the 800 and another $5K+ for a turbo you have to install....... it makes sense to stick with factory set-up.

What is so great about a di 800 who cares how its injected add 10hp then we are talkin!

Well the rumor is for a 170 horse DI 800 so that's what's so great about a DI 800

--Ski-Doo DI 800cc doesn't make 170 HP nor does it do a good job of lubing crankshaft due to DI location. Also hard to tune and runs hotter.

--Cat patent info posted describes these issues -- patent also shows a indirect fuel injection system that runs cooler and lubes crankshaft. DI does not make more power, if anything the same or less. Just runs a little cleaner with less reliability.

Get the 13, get a good deal and go riding. You will be able to update your secondary to the new one or get a Team secondary and be good to go. The small refinements you will see can all be added to your 12 or 13 model. Get out and ride, don't wait for tomorrow or for speculation. RIDE TODAY.

Like I said who cares if it is a Direct Injected engine or not as long as it has more (reliable) power, I always here DI this and DI that if it runs good who cares where the fuel enters the engine - give us more power that is the fun part anyway!!!!!!

If you have a sled now and can wait i'd wait for 14's hoping the belts will last longer maybe? mine lasted 500miles on first one, i would add cats vented panels for 300 dollars it all done for you and just need to slap them on and you'll lose alot of heat that is causing some of the problems imho. they are great sleds don't feel as heavy as they are love my sled now if it would hold a belt for 2000 miles.

2000 miles from a machine with that kind of weight and that kind of horsepower is very unrealistic. Especially if you are riding good conditions and running hard. 2000 miles is not gonna happen off the groomed trail. Actually 500 is pretty damn decent.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like if I love it I'll get the deal.

I'll give it a test ride and go from there. Ride is scheduled for a week from sunday. I'll get to ride an M800 and the 1100 turbo.

If I decide to go 2 stroke it will be this year's I don't want to be in on a new engine on the ground floor. (Call me crazy but I hate being the test dummy)

I see all the comments about the belts. Is this more of a heat or stress issue or both?

Good idea to test ride and then wait till the new ones are released! By then prices should be dropping on the 12 & 13's ,If the rumors are true and cat and yamaha share motors the four strokes are proven. I'm riding a 12' T1100 with speedwerx remap, can, cold air, upgraded to 2.6 powder claw , this works pretty good with upgrades in horsepower.

Im in a similar position but Im set on the 1100. But I too would like to see what the 14s are gonna bring before I make the plunge. When is AC supposed to be releasing their new sleds?

try to demo a 1100 with the vertical steering.........whole different sled than the standard sled :face-icon-small-coo

1100t with reflash and a couple other goodies is pretty incredible,,
actually it is extremely impressive.
my vote is for a '13 1100t,,,, incredible machine!!!!

If you are going to buy an 1100t get it now or wait until the 2015, that sled will be worth the wait if you want a four stroke. The 2014 1100t will have few changes.

While I have some attention let me flip this discussion another way.

Right now I ride a 2002 Mountain Max (they never die) mod sled with a MPI tunnel. The sled is fat and heavy, and anything but full throttle can be a pain. Will the M1100T be as unruly or less so? I realize this is a fairly ridiculous scenario to set up but I'm sure someone on here has had a similar experience.

The 1100T will be so much better in every way. With some added EVO power you will wonder way you didnt do it sooner.
