Spoken like a true lib. VW is also guilty of entirely mishandling situation. They should have said that based on their interpretation of emissions regulations the software was perfectly suited to this application and that they should be commended for reducing emissions in this way without sacrificing performance of their automobiles. Kudos to VW for using such sophisticated technology in this way. VW should be recognized globally for their commitment to a green planet. Clearly a technological leader in the industry.

There was nothing that was technologically savvy other than VAG creating a special code programmed into the ECU so that when the Traction control (more than likely) was turned off as they do on an emissions test, the vehicle would produce less power, less fuel economy and burn ultra clean. The person buying the car never drove it that way and are probably going to end up with a car after an ECU reflash that will drive worse, less power, less fuel economy and be as clean as VW originally told everyone it is. They cheated is all they did. Nothing fancy.

There is talk that Fiat may buy them out and really screw things up!

I doubt Fiat has that kind of money. VAG is the largest automotive manufacture in the world. Fiat was trying to sell themselves to GM last I heard. GM said they have no interest in them.

Wind doesnt always blow & water doesnt always flow besides anytime you turn on a light you have no clue where that power is coming from.

Im ok with VW cheating for better mpg, dpf/egr/def are mpg robbing junk that polute more but at acceptable levels but use more fuel. :hippie:

Something you may see happen with this case that is different from the past would be responsible individuals being criminally charged rather than the company itself being fined. Stay tuned…

I would rather see GM pay back the American public than buying troubled foreign auto builders.

They paid back their Loan. I also said they have zero interest in buying fiat.

Are you complaining about ford, Chrysler for paying back their loans?

Seriously, VAG is way larger than Fiat.

I think it goes about like this
1. VAG
2. Toyota
3. GM
4. Nissan/Renault
5. Hyundai/Kia
6. Ford
7. Fiat
8. Honda
9. Peugeot
10. BMW

The Canadian government played a similar stunt with the GM bailout here...

They (GM) announced that the "loan" had been repaid when the truth was that it was only a fraction of the initial amount. Makes sense to forgive a good chunk of a loan when you can (misleadingly) spin doctor it into advertising to falsely regain market trust. What a farce.

On July 21, 2011, Fiat bought the Chrysler shares held by the United States Treasury. With the purchase, Chrysler once again became foreign owned

On January 1, 2014, Fiat announced it would be acquiring the remaining shares of Chrysler owned by the VEBA worth $3.65 billion. The deal was completed on January 21, 2014. Several days later, the intended reorganization of Fiat and Chrysler under a new holding company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, together with a new FCA logo were announced.

almost zero~~~~~"On November 18, 2010, Ford reduced its stake further to 3%."

I never understood how people figure that a vehicle that gets 10mpg but has clean exhaust due to emissions crap is better for the environment than a similar vehicle getting 20 mpgs with no emissions equipment. That's twice the fuel that has to be drilled and refined for the "cleaner" vehicle, which that process has got to pollute alot more than a vehicle with no emissions equipment. I think its funny what vw did outsmarting the EPA and all but if I owned one id be pissed, not that vw lied or anything but that now thanks to the epa if it ever went in to the shop for anything the performance and economy I was getting would be gone. I think id avoid goin to the dealer as long as possible

Thank god at least for a little while there will be less noisy, stinky, black smoke blowing pos diesels out there!!! Too bad VW didn't make full size trucks so there would also be less idiots flooring their 4 inch exhausted pos's hoping the noise would drown out their thoughts about their sexual inadequacies;)
