vholdr recorder

I have been using AVS Video Converter 6.3 non-activated version, seems to be one of the best I've used but there's a big emblem right in the middle of the screen to let you know that its the non-activated version, still can't find one that works great and doesn't have anything pasted all over the screen

outlaw, whats giving you problems with your sony...what are you trying to do with it?

I dont know if this is the way to put it. I cant find a codec to get it to work on my puter. I was going to try and mix in in Movie Maker. Some moron(me) lost the disc that came with the camcorder... so I have tried a bunch, but none work, for me anyway.

I just used the codec on the Vholdr website and it works just fine on my puter. The only thing is I wish I could make it as clear on Movie Maker as it comes through on the vholdr website.

google vlc media player and download it. thats what i did for my vhold and it plays it no problem now. it can play any codec file... maybe thats what the problem is for your sony. im by no means a computer expert but its worth a try.

im not sure but maybe the movie maker cant use the codec that your sony saves it as( like my vholdr is for the pinnacle movie making program) so you would be in the same boat as me, looking for a good conversion software.

Any progress?

I don't have anything to offer, but I've been watching this thread with great interest. Any progress yet? I'm still in the the Mini DV tape technology, but may want to upgrade soon.

Were you ever able to convert and edit the video from the contour in Studio and what version are you using? I just upgraded to Windows7 and need to also purchase editing software in anticipation of buying the contourHD.

I don't know if it has been advertised much but the New Contour HD 1080 is coming out. I actually got mine a couple weeks ago being as I have bought the first 2 they gave me a good deal and couldnt pass it up. Anyway this new one you can change the exposeure, contrast and brightness before you take it out to film. This is a great new feature as the Contour HD sucks for bright sunny snow days. I took mine out last year one time and found that the snow was a complete washout of overexposure. This new one I hope will do the trick. I will let you know how it goes as soon as it starts to snow I and can start to use it. Looks promising though.

As far as the editing i am still working on that too. VLC plays it great and I love that I can now do slowmo or speed it up, but as for actually editing and putting music to it and burning it to a DVD I am still working on that part of it myself. Its been a frustrating year for editing these files.

i was able to convert it after i downloaded avs video converter 6 and it worked very simple. but i only downloaded the trial version so far and it has a logo in the middle of the screen but if you pay for it, then it works good.

i couldnt find anything that was free that would work so im thinking about just paying for it

That is what I'm concerned about...sounds like a PIA to edit this format on a pc. I just want to do some simple editing and burn to dvd. I don't care about uploading to their site or youtube.

i seen the 1080 version right when my contourHD was in the mail and i was crushed. I tried the handbrake converter program but it does not work properly for me.

On-board video options

I thought I would chime in here on helmet camera options.....

I'm sure the VholdR and POV1 are great units, but I haven't used them personally.

We also mfg a high-end DVD quality system for the fearless. Here are some major differences to consider when choosing between a lick'em stick'em camera system or something like Motocam 360:

  • built in LCD screen - allows lens aiming and video playback on the trail
  • Remote control - allows the user to activate the system without
reaching for your head (integrated pilot light)
  • Power - our system has 5000mA or 10,000mA of power (good for the cold)
Provides 8hr. and 16hr of runtime respectively
  • Interchangeable Lens - Need a different angle, no problem ($29ea)
  • Multiple Angles - we offer an optional 2 camera or 4 camera split screen
  • CCD Lens - Much better picture quality than CMOS in low light and bright conditions

Granted, our pricing is not for everybody, but atleast you know what features drive the price tag of some of the systems on the market today.

I Just recieved my new Vholdr 1080p contour HD, after a bit of playing around with it and trying different video formats, I ran into a few problems but have came up with a fixes for them. First my laptop could not handle playing full 1080p or 720p at 60fps. My computer is pretty new(two years old or so) and has 4 gb of memory. I am sure my graphics card is nothing to brag about however. But the video was more of a picture slide show because it was so choppy, rather than a smooth video. I researched this a bit, and downloaded KM player http://kmplayer.en.softonic.com/
For some reason this player can play my hd video super smooth while quicktime or window media player could not.

I have easy media creator 10, and i use this to edit my videos and make dvds. I have never had any problems using this program before. But using the .mov files that the vholdr camera makes in this program lost the audio in my video files. I decided that these .mov files do not work as well as other files I have used before, so I did a bit of research and downloaded this converter from the internet, so I could change the .mov to .mpg4
Converting to .mpg4 I did not lose any video quality and the audio now works in my video editing program, the .mpg4 is just a easier file to work with I think. Here is that converter http://www.formatoz.com/

I am not an expert on any of this stuff, but all of the small problems I have experienced with the video file formating with this helmet camera have been solved and I can edit or do whatever I want with the video files now.

Well I am sorry to tell those of you that bought the Contour HD sunny days will be worthless. Check out this video and you will see why.

This video later in the day when the sun wasn't so high shows what the snow really was like that day.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi8OqnYE9b4&feature=related

The cloudy overcast days it might works just fine. I only had mine for the very last ride of the season so I can't say what it will be like on the overcast days, but as for the bright sunny days, I can say it sucked.

We will just see how the new 1080 does with it.

As for the post about the other camera. It looks like a great setup, however it looks like you have to have wires to it. That is where I lose interest. I had a wired camera before and got sick of it. That's why i went to the wireless set up. Also the price for that is a little high in my opinion. Personaly I have now bought 3 Vholdr cameras for less than 1 of your set ups. (which kinda sucks because I wish i didnt waste my money on the first 2 and now could have bought yours for that price) :) Anyway it does look like it has great potential and should work pretty good.

BTW VLC player plays the videos as smooth as could be. Quick time does not. VLC so far has been the best player in my mind.

I just downloaded the Formatoz Converter and i will be working on what settings work best. I have tried a couple of the HD settings and the video is still way jumpy even in the VLC player. Using the "High Quality" settings seemed to work ok, but I will have to mess with it more to find the best settings.

Yamadoo

Is there maybe some way to use a filter? I hope so I also just got my contour before I knew about the 1080 version.

I did ask them that and they don't have anything like that right now. You might be able to go to a camera store and see what they can do for ya. I know our first helmet camera had a sun filter on it. I just don't know how you would mount it on this camera. Definitely something to look into though.

So I have found a program that works pretty well for editing the HD Contour videos. We got a new dell laptop computer with Windows 7 and I downloaded the Windows live movie maker. FREE download for windows 7. It can edit and make videos with the .mov files that are created with the helmet camera. No conversions needed. It may not have all the best features like slow motion but it can still create a great movie with transitions anda very easy to use interface. I am uploading part 1 of my video of our last ride last year on youtube so I will post a link as soon as it gets loaded.

The original Vholder .avi files dont work very good on it but maybe if you convert the files first it will work good.

Don't know about how the new HD1080 camera will work yet but I will soon. I will keep everybody posted.
