VES Extreme

We bought a couple jugs of this to try out this season- anyone know if you can add it with the standard VES or should we wait till they are low?

Even though I am always hauling sleds in an enclosed heater trailer.. and there is heat built up under the hood while riding.... This clip was given to me by one of my clients.. and then the questions started to fly at me from all directions today, and of course warranty concerns on oil..

I always take it as the one making this promo- always will never under-perform their competition...

. Like to see the extreme oil flow comparison.

FWIW- here is the clip.... If you haven't seen it, I am sure this may be a bit dated November last year.
Just throwing it out there for comments......

Interesting. Cold pour isn't the be-all end-all, but I'm a little disappointed that VES gold is apparently the worst there – albeit in Amsoil's limited demonstration. I wonder how Castrol 2t, RedLine, and Mystik synthetic (besides the new Polaris oil) would compare. No matter how much I read, I can't even convince myself of what's best, or whether it's worth spending extra on...

Independent test would be more believable. Have not been a fan of amsoil since using interceptor and losing two motors went back to stock oil no more trouble with that sled. Run whatever makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

Polaris had a promo out a few weeks back. Buy one, get one free on the oil.. so bought a gallon jug, and scooped the free one, still have some leftover VES for the 800 to run out, then imagine just switch that over as well, when the time comes.

Interesting videos. First, I'd probably steer away from a manufacturer that tried to show their oil was superior simply because of the cold pour point.

The Polaris video has LOTS of tasty little tidbits. The lady gives the real "secret" away, about 2/3 thru the video. The most superior lubrication is synthetic ester. There's nothing better on this planet for lubricating a 2-stroke snowmobile engine. VES-Extreme has some ester, but so does Mystic JT-4. Mystic JT-4 is about 20% ester and I suspect that VES-E has a similar amount to keep the cost down. The stuff is not cheap. I can get JT-4 at Fleet Farm for $24 a gallon all day long. Love it.

Also note she called the competitor pistons "Competitor R" and "Competitor A". I'd put money down on competitor A being Amsoil. Competitor R is probably Redline, since I believe Redline uses some synthetic ester in their formulation and they wanted to compare ester vs. ester. I've never been a fan of Amsoil, not just because the stuff smells horrible, but because they use soooo many detergents. As far as I care, detergents are alcohols, which are volatile, can lower your octane, cause detonation, etc., etc.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I know guys who pump out oil if they are changing it.. I wait until its kinda low, and then fill it up. If its both Polaris oil, I'm not sure if I'd even bother.. I think I'd just throw it in.

Here is a question for you guys, would lack of oil at -35 cause fouled plugs?? Just curious.

I think we'll just wait until they get low then top them up- I just wondered if there'd be any issues mixing the two say if we topped it up when it was still half full- sounds like there isn't. It was actually that Chris Burandt video that convinced my husband that we "needed" the extreme. I don't know that we ever do too many cold starts- probably -20C at the coldest- any colder and we are not going. It's more about the better protection- I'm on board with anything that extends the life of my machine- I'm not really into being broke down on the side of a mountain and if there is anything I can do to help prevent it I'm in. Yea, it's more expensive- I think the standard stuff is around $50 a jug and I think this was $65- but given the amount of money spent on everything else it's just a drop in the bucket.

Independent test would be more believable. Have not been a fan of amsoil since using interceptor and losing two motors went back to stock oil no more trouble with that sled. Run whatever makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

Never been a fan of amsoil either. That stuff stinks and burns the eyes BAD! If someone is ahead of you on trail or mountain, you can always smell it . . .no thanks!!
