venting kits

PICS of clutch vent with screen material.

Here are some pics of how I did my clutch vent. I wouldn't use the prefilter material because it doesn't allow air to flow thru it. Instead of putting the screen under the vent and being able to see it from the outside, I installed it on the inside. I glued it to the side panel and put washers on the rivets to help hold it in place.

Thanks

That looks good. What glue did you use? Looks like you just glued the edges is all, or is it just hard to see the glue in the middle of the vent. Did you buy your screen material at a hardware store like home depot? That looks like courser material than the typical window screen material. Did you glue it then trim the edges flush? Sorry for all the questions. Projects like this usually don't go good for me unless I know exactly how to do it. Thanks

I used a glue called 1300L. I just glued the edges down. I bought it at home depot, it is the pet screen material. Its easy.

The screen material seems to work great. I used some 3M spray glue I've had in the cupboard for years. No problems yesterday when in plenty of dry powder. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the update. Glad the screen works. That is what I did but hav'nt had it in deep yet.

Ok, so I've had one good run with the screen installed and one bad. The bad day was cold dry powder. 100 yds and 1 left hand turn and my belt slipped bad. I would have to say this is the single worst mod I've ever done to any sled now. I'm a little pissed I even touched sled. I installed the rail stiffeners by Polaris last week because the metal cleats were bending down, and now snow builds up. Another bad idea. Now if I remove them I will have 6ish holes on each side of my tunnel, not to mention the holes in the footbed rail as well and will still have the problem with bending cleats. What gives here?? Just a little venting, sorry :face-icon-small-hap

better boards would cure your 10 holes in and the boards and be stiffer as well. i put the stiffers on my but i haven't had much of a chance to ride it. i have installed slp vents on mine, the ones from polaris and they haven't leaked in the powder i rode in today, hopefully they won't be a problem.

Ya, I had some on my D8 and loved them. I didn't really want to cut this sled up, but maybe down the road I will. I was happy with the snow evac of the stockers until I notice the bent down lugs. I guess I'm bending them with my toes/ inside of my foot. My rails are also showing signs of bending. I haven't even really put these to the test yet. Time will tell. I'll check on the SLP vents and see what they offer.

I have been biting my lip for over a month on how crappy these overpriced POS cheese grater Holtz are, but yesterday I had enough. Two Pros, one w/ Holz and one w/o. Guess which one gave us problems all day. Just happened to be my sled w/ the cheese grater vents. About every left hand powder carve and side hill my sled would darn near come to a screeching halt. I called Holtz right after I bought them w/ concerns about not having a prefilter and they swore they NEVER have had ANY belt issues w/ their vents.
So after my first belt squealing ride I called them again and they told me it was not their vents but the factory Polaris foot and hood vent. Well I blocked off both factory vents and would you believe that it still sucks a crap load of sled stopping snow through the Holtz vents.:mad2:
So how many disappointed Holtz vent buyers does this make?
I should of listened to myself when I first got them and sent them back.
Ok, rant over......

well have a good look at the slp vents, i'm not saying they are the best ones, i bought them cause my dealer had them sitting there, they have worked great today in the deep powder, as far as no snow going through them, but i have literally 30 miles on my sled now, so i'm in no way an expert on vents or the sled. if i had to do it over again i would buy just the xxxmods knee counsel vents, i think flow from the front hood vents directed out the back over the clutches and out the knee vents would be good, and you don't have to cut up your side panels like i did.

That sucks!! Not meaning to hijack your thread but if your considering changing vents I went with a kit from 2 cool. They were 4 pieces per side and even replace the small Polaris vent right above the clutch and pipe. They even heat pressed the logo's back on the vent so you retain your graphics.
I have been in crazy deep snow several times and never any problems at all. I hope you get the Holz thing worked out. For anyone else looking I highly recommend the 2 cool vents.

They need to nut up and send out some sort of a permanent fix. The screen material (that I had to buy and install) isn't cutting it. Holz? You out there?? Disappointed customers= no return business- for any of your products.

About time they admit that their vents let in a crap load of snow.
What took em so long?? I am glad they are finally trying to fix their problem but they should of been on the ball a month ago..

I bought a set at Edmonton sled show from Bacuss Racing booth, they had the extra pre filter on clutch side vents already installed inside of mesh, vents fit great, look great, and no leaks.

Been wondering how hard it is to remove the Pro RMK decal, any special way to do it ?

take a heat gun or a hair dryer and heat them up good, you won't have any residue left over and they come off fairly quickley. i removed all the decals to wrap the sled and it wasn't tough at all. the tunnel stickers on the right side were hard to remove. all warning decals came off easy too.
