It would suck to see that whole meadow get shut down due to a few people breaking the rules every weekend. If you are going past the signs just for ski/board access to the terrain above Lime Creek, it's just not worth it. It's only a 5 minute hike or traverse over to the terrain from the signs. Is that extra 500' past the sign worth a $275 ticket? What I don't get is why the FS doesn't just put up some lodgepole or beetle kill fencing at the end of that meadow to keep people from riding over to Vail.
I will say this....I know a couple of the FS rangers up there and they have told me on more than a few occasions that they enjoy writing tickets, especially to people who pull the attitude with them. On any given Saturday or Sunday, they setup stakeouts just beyond a lot of the closed signs and will nab 10-15 sledders per day.
So yeah, the closed areas really make no sense and it does suck, but there are A LOT of legal areas up there that are equally, if not better zones for sledding and/or sled-ski/boarding.
