Vail Pass updates?

i think the "money goes for grooming" is b.s.
how in the hell does everywhere else get groomed then? you know cause they dont charge anywhere else.
we are paying for the rangers to ticket and ride up there. that is all
off the subject but can i give a ticket to a skier using the snowmobile only trail, cause that would out of bounds for them right? seen it many times on the switchbacks right out of the parking lot.
done .... steam relieved..

The $6 collected goes to the Vail Task Force. They in turn "manage" the area so that both sledders and skiers can play in the same area. They put up signs, poles and groom for both parties (it is considered a "hybrid" area). They also check sleds for registration and will be checking DBA levels next year. Everyone should have their sleds registered so you can't argue that one. Their grooming funds also come in from Colorado State Parks in association with CSA (Colorado Snowmobile Association).

Our club gets grooming funds from the same place but we have to do all the other work as volunteer (trust me on this one). We also don't have near the traffic and although all areas have different use groups, we don't have near the "hybrid" impact that Vail Pass does.

there is one girl who works for the forest sevice up there who is very pretty. She nice too. Always tells us to keep our parking tight. Havent had many problems with them this year. They were too busy skiing this weekend to bother anyone

I know exactly who you are talking about. Blonde hair, blue eyes? Kinda short? Always driving around in the jeep? Yeah, she's a hottie. Really nice too. She's actually a volunteer for the forest service.

So back on topic how is the snow looking this week at VP?

Saturday was amazing (good 3' of new in spots, other spots around 20", parking lot only about 6"). Got real warm on Sunday and yesterday, so everything is setup. Big storm on the way for Thursday-Friday. Around 10"-18" for the Vail Pass area, maybe more.

Forest service are pussies. Got a ticket today. $275 is ****ing ridiculous. Im still gonna ride wherever the **** i want. The government can kiss my ***. Bunch of Nazi's!

Damn, that's a pricey ticket!! Curious as to what happened/what you did?? We saw the FS staking out some closed areas the other day up there. Sneaky little bastards. Were skinning by them on our way to East Vail as they were writing out tickets to a group.

Dunno if it was you guys, but I talked to some rangers at about noon Saturday over off Lime Creek; they were on their way to "contact" a group of sledders who were riding out of a meadow.

THOSE guys _should_ have gotten a ticket. They rode RIGHT PAST the sign.

So, if it was you, you deserved it.

Not you, and you got screwed, that blows.

I saw first-hand evidence of ticketworthy behavior on Saturday, though....

Not really arguing if I deserved it or not. Just pissed that i got one and its $275. They could have given us a warning. Anyone who works for the government and writes tickets can kiss my ***. Im still gonna ride wherever the **** i want to. Forest service are a bunch of government tools, brain washed tree hugging pussies.

Fair enough, I'd be mad, too, I suppose.

*IF* one of the rangers that gave you the ticket was one of the guys I was speaking with, though, he does not really fit that description (brainwashed treehugger hippie or whatever).

He's a bonafide redneck, chews tobacco, calls outhouses "$h11ter$," and I've seen him (and one other) lay over a FS sled in deep snow, pin it and spin it around like, well, lots of people here _wish_ they could.

I've had a couple of run-ins with the VP rangers, no tickets (no warnings, either, I'm super careful), but a couple of them HAVE ticked me off.

A couple others have surprised me, though - they've got a lot more in common with us than you think - *IF* you interact with them in ways that don't include "enforcement."

Who knows. I've gotten warnings from rangers on my dirtbikes for riding closed trails, but both times, I explained where I entered and why I thought it was OK. They thought about it, nodded, informed me that I'd interpreted the signage incorrectly and gave me a warning.

The people who made the tracks past the sign at the top of the meadow don't have that luxury - it is _CLEARLY_ closed.

I speed a lot.

I don't get mad when I get a ticket. I figure that I can read the signs and if I choose to disregard them, I might get an award.

In this case, I'd do the same - but I won't risk getting _YOUR_ riding area closed because *I* want to ride something.

Clearly, I don't agree with you, but I'm not trying to pick a fight - I (and a lot of other people, I suspect) would simply appreciate it if you'd consider those of us who'd rather obey closures than risk getting what we DO have reduced.

You guys are giving JFly WAY to much credit. This is just what he does. He makes his own rules then rants and raves when he gets caught. And he has the logic of a 12 yr old. Don't get caught actually "reasoning" with him, it's like reasoning with a drunk.

I hear he makes a mean veggie pizza though.
