often quoted when people make comments wihtout foundation or fact though...and as part of the USA...

even a fool can appear wise if he remains silent...unfortunately, some people remove all doubt by opening their mouths and spewing things they have no idea about...

casting pearls...

not worth the time if you only want to spew and not back up with data points...

Well guys, As an alaskan who lived here at the time, and had friends impacted by the spill..I will say this..to this day prince william sound is not nearly as recovered as the experts would have you believe...most all areas that got oil on the beach during the spill , still have small amounts of oil today, there are still several species of animals that have struggled to recover to their pre spill numbers, and most of the resident sealife shows signs of pollutants traced to the spill...And yes..alot of people/ communities were badly harmed by the spill...And at the time....the only thing exxon would do cleanup wise is what the state forced them to do..it was a major battle to get them to do what they did..I am no tree hugger..but I do believe that every person/ company/corporation has a responsibility to leave our wilderness better then they found it...period......my .02.:beer;

gotta fill up tomorrow ...think I'll take another 270 gallons this week....10 grand a month ...oh well

Good post AKNSOWRIDER, and yes, the oilspill was a huge environmental disaster that still affects us today. Nothing is the same, even today.

no disagreement on cleaning up what you screw up...but that is a big leap to "fool" and "oil running the US"

just a note...experts say that the people /companies affected by the spill can expect to receive 3000-15000 in settlement for what they were put thru..the original court order would have amounted to about 75000 per person affected...I know several commercial fisherman that lost everything, homes, boats, their entire livelihood...

And if the lawsuits had been restricted to just those actually affected it would have been different. As is, anyone and his brother got in on it and muddied up the waters.
MOST of the people that will be getting a settlement weren't even affected. They just saw a check book and went for it.

You want to blame someone, blame the lawyers.

How do you know all this? Or are you just extrapolating to what normally goes on with large lawsuits?

Wasn't going for a correction, just putting out more/other info.

It comes down to the same thing that environmental topics always do. Is the earth only here for humans use and consumption (the bible tells us it is:rolleyes:), or are humans here to coexist just like the rest of things on this earth do.

actually the bible says we are to watch over the rest of Gods creatures and care for them as well.

I read a link on the lawsuit....a 25 year old kid was complaining about it. I get a 40 year old that lost his income and life, but at 15 now he was still in elementary school...he coulda been smart and picked a different job. Sounds like he wanted the easy money to me.

return the wildlife population to what it was....build some fish farms to replace the billions of salmon destroyed and what ever the equivalent would be for the animals.....undo the damage done....finish cleaning it up...it not done...see the link ruffy posted-

You wanna talk about destroying ecosystems, wildlife and livelyhood....look at all the dams in the west and then look at the salmon fisheries...then look at the deltas in california, etc. Or is it ok since most peopel wanted it and the government built it...or is it ok because it as allowed Cali and the southwest to be what they are...or is it ok because the northwest had insanely cheap electricity...or is it ok because farmers and Big Farming have drit cheap water that we are taking a loss on? Just wondering

Because the government built it! I am not sure the analogy fits, there is a benefit/cost to both. The cost of your examples were not an accident, while the Valdez cost was an accident, it was not planned. I think there is a big difference there.

actually the bible says we are to watch over the rest of Gods creatures and care for them as well.

The underlying fact though is that god created the earth for us, that was his plan.

Kind of like the sun the center of the solar system vs. the earth. Religious people tend to believe that they are the most important thing on the earth, and it is here because of them. While others don't really have an answer for who the earth is for, it is for all of us I guess.

Didn't you ever see "A hitchhikers guide to a galaxy" ? The dolphins are the top species on the planet anyways.... :p

So what if that 25 year old kid was supposed to be a 3 or 4 generation fisherman taking over the family business? Now he can't, he must try and find a different job, but will most likely leave the town and will not return. I think that deserves some compensation.
