US of A Founded by Christians for Christians.

I am encouraged that you guys are at least interacting, it shows that there is some interest in the subject.
I would love to share a "hit rock bottom" story or an "epiphany" moment, but quite frankly my experience would bore anyone into clicking the back button!
But I have had very lengthy conversations with someone who went from a druggie to preacher & his stories were very interesting. I wish someone who walked that path would chime in.

That's what great about this country he or she is entitled to there own opinion. Yes they did own slaves at that time was a way of life for there time period. They were also very wise in laying out a government that has lasted this long. The 19 trillion that we are in debt is a wake up call that our generosity can't continue. We cannot continue to raise taxes on working people to pay for welfare on refugees and illegal immigrants. One of the reasons we are here in North America.

My point was if they were Christians they know slavery is wrong. Period! Debt is not the issue here.
How many North American natives were butchered and forced off of their land by this Christian nation? And most Americans do not even know why they are called Indians. Fast forward to modern times when blacks and woman could not vote in this Christian nation. But hey, lets go forth and multiply in the name of religion and culture and over populate and destroy this planet.
Oh, and as far as taxes? Churches don't pay taxes, but I do.

If you are an American watch this video. A
christian nation would not let this happen. We should be ashamed.

No, the Christian right is the reason that video exists. Send your young to fight wars over culture and religion and then leave them to die once they are used up and battered. The religious right loves their holy war, keeps budgets fat and money rolling into their pockets. I can't completely blame them, seems like most politicians understand war is a great way to make money, for themselves.

BTW, one of 5FDP's best tunes with an amazing message.

You guys are really reaching, LOL.
Do you guys have anything else that you'd like to blame on Christianity?
Global warming?
Mad Cow?
Police brutality?
Toxic shock syndrome?
Low grain prices?
Soccer?
Chronic wasting disease?
As long as you're blaming everything else on Christianity, you may as well pile on!

This country was founded one nation under God

Actually... the phrase "One Nation, under God" appeared in the 1950's, driven by the likes of Billy Graham and the Corporate "machine" behind him...

Prior to that... our Pledge of allegiance did NOT include that phrase ...Nor did our money... rather it had "E Pluribus Unum" (Out of many, one)...OR..."Out of many states emerges one country." as a motto showing the unity to bring our country together.

My take after pondering the many sides of this discussion is that this was a "power move" by the corporate elite towards a perceived correction to the policies that FDR enacted that were instrumental in bringing our country out of the great depression. Those policies hurt the "power elite"... the very people that plunged our country into that depression in the first place through their gross misdeeds.

Eisenhower was a reluctant participant to this 62-yer "afterthought" insertion of the the word God into the pledge ...

The corporations that were behind pressuring President Eisenhower into this decision left him in a quandary, and in his most famous speech, Eisenhower gave the citizens of the United States this warning...
"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist."

While I agree that the "Founding Fathers" were Christians (It would be silly not to agree with that).... They worked very hard to keep the state separate from church... the church of the day in the United States was overwhelmingly Christian...Quite a feat actually to keep it out of the constitution.

Now, the word God DOES appear in the "Declaration of Independence"...often "lumped into" discussions with the Constitution... not even close to the same thing. One is a declaration of war, the other a set of base laws for our country... separated by 11 years of war and experience... and most importantly, the application of WISDOM...

I can say this, for my own truth... Wisdom and Intelligence/Conviction are often exclusive of each other. For me, Wisdom has the most value.

The signers of the Constitution, were acutely aware of the challenges of religious controlled/influenced government. For me, that speaks volumes.

Church-driven, politically-motivated power grabs...like the Salem Witch Trials, less than 90 years prior... were still fresh in the minds of our new nation in 1787, when the first draft of the constitution arrived. That influenced them, following the war, in the calm that was requisite in the development of a WISE foundation of the laws that govern us as a nation.

I find it ironic that many will both argue a literal understanding of the second amendment and an "interpretation" type of understanding of the document it amended.

Amend (ə-mĕnd′) v. a·mend·ed, a·mend·ing, a·mends v.tr. 1. To change for the better; improve:

If the amendments were to improve or clarify, as a support to the understanding of this great document...The Founding-Fathers certainly, again, did not include any depiction of a Christian God, or any other God, in the document.

While anyone with even a rudimentary grasp of the Constitution and Bill of Rights will know that Thomas Jeffersons famous "Separation of Church and state" position was not part of the Constitution or its amendments. The word "GOD" does not appear in the constitution. This IS something that would have, in context and contrast with the times, required a lot of effort to exclude, especially given the framers religious background. The word nonetheless does NOT exist in the constitiution.... again, "A big deal".

Lincoln said that "A nation divided against itself cannot stand"... and to me, this is even more important than ever as a "Lunatic Fringe" of fanatic Christian extremist rise in our own country... That "fringe" remains in the minority fortunately, albeit a substantially dangerous minority, has brought a lot of fear and damage to our country and the world... we have seen what this kind of unchecked fanaticism, regardless of belief/faith, can do to a civilized world when the "armed and dangerous" inflict their beliefs at gunpoint because of piety and righteousness.

It is everywhere in our news these days. The mentality of..."If you don't agree with me... I will use intimidation, force and violence against you until you DO agree with me." ISIS thrives on this as well as any other religious fanatic group throughout the history of our planet.

I can say this with conviction and global experience... that any given sect/religion/faith has fanatical zealots that are as convinced in their righteousness as the fanatical zealots in any other sect/religion/faith... and there are people involved in those groups, on all sides, that will inflict terror on a society/world in order to attempt to prove their beliefs, through violence, "In the name of god" ...as if they were privy to god's thoughts. There are Christians in our country today that believe this... as well as Muslims and all other religions.

The laws that were laid down in this foundation of our country, the US CONSTITUTION, were full of thought, reflection and portent. It should, IMO, be looked at as "thin ice" to take into consideration that the founding fathers "implied" God to permeate all of that amazing document simply because they, themselves, were Christians.

My 2¢.

The evolution of the...

The Pledge of Allegiance

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in August 1892 by the socialist minister Francis Bellamy (1855-1931). It was originally published in The Youth's Companion on September 8, 1892. Bellamy had hoped that the pledge would be used by citizens in any country.

In its original form it read:

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1923, the words, "the Flag of the United States of America" were added. At this time it read:
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Bellamy's daughter objected to this alteration. Today it reads:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Section 4 of the Flag Code states:
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.", should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute."

The original Bellamy salute, first described in 1892 by Francis Bellamy, who authored the original Pledge, began with a military salute, and after reciting the words "to the flag," the arm was extended toward the flag.

At a signal from the Principal the pupils, in ordered ranks, hands to the side, face the Flag. Another signal is given; every pupil gives the flag the military salute — right hand lifted, palm downward, to a line with the forehead and close to it. Standing thus, all repeat together, slowly, "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands; one Nation indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all." At the words, "to my Flag," the right hand is extended gracefully, palm upward, toward the Flag, and remains in this gesture till the end of the affirmation; whereupon all hands immediately drop to the side.
The Youth's Companion, 1892

Shortly thereafter, the pledge was begun with the right hand over the heart, and after reciting "to the Flag," the arm was extended toward the Flag, palm-down.
In World War II, the salute too much resembled the Nazi salute, so it was changed to keep the right hand over the heart throughout.

In God we trust was first on to coins in 1864. It was considered in 1837 but did not make it the mint until 1864. I still hold fast as to if you migrate here learn to live as an American. When my ancestors came here they learned to speak English and socialize with other ethnic groups. That's not happening today.

Rev...

You are correct...It was permitted to put "In God we Trust" on some coins but not paper currency...AND not required until 1956 when it first appeared on paper money ... so I stand corrected for this.

The US Court of Appeals ruled:
"In God We Trust' has nothing whatsoever to do with the establishment of religion. Its use is of patriotic or ceremonial character and bears no true resemblance to a governmental sponsorship of a religious exercise."

I agree that this really does not represent ANY government endorsement of God.(weather that is Christ, Shiva, Buddah or any other name for God)

I find it interesting that Theodore Roosevelt believed that it was sacrilege to put the name God on coins. TR believed that the "coins" sullied the word "God".
He was a devout Christian... and followed the "Dutch Reformed" sect of Christianity.

How would you know if you have never tried it?:face-icon-small-sho

Tried what? Going to church and wasting a perfectly good sunday? I believe in myself. I believe in being a good person, helping others and being a great friend to those that deserve it. Religion taught me none of this. Some of the worst people I have met believe in god. I am not offended by religion, do what ever it is that makes you happy. Try to push it on me and I will start telling you about dinosaurs.

Whats wrong with Dinosaurs and religion?

Dinosaurs were on this planet 250 million years ago, thats whats wrong.

And that has what to do with the original subject of this thread or Christianity. And what does others enunciating history and facts have to do with forcing you into religion?
Because this country was founded by Christians on the Gosphel of Jesus Christ does not require you to participate in Christianity but it also constitutionally requires the government keep out of our religious freedoms and rights!
