i don't think i've seen the actual 'upper huffman' open that early... your right about the snow coverage thing... they have some magical depth, which is usually after the winds have blown and it probably shouldn't be open anymore. I've actually had bad experiences up there... one time i went up a chute and found myself in the middle of a pretty gnarly slide...with two buddies at the bottom... still get flash backs sometimes when i'm climbing other places... its the trippiest(not sure if thats a word..?) thing. Thats normally the point when i turn back and find something else to do...
