upgrades for a stock 05' m7 141

I just purchaced this sled for 3200 and looking for some insight as to cost efficiant, and reliable upgrades for it. I have read about tunnel dumps and control boxes but havent ever used one my old sled which was a 98 ski doo that dont anymore (due to crank bearing). So here I am with a stock 05' m7 just to give an idea I ride in Minnesota and U.P. MI going west somewhere for the first time this year. I do trail ride so I want to keep the 141" track until I get used to it before I go bigger but I love going off the trails were ever there isnt a fence. Any ideas far a guy finally movin up in the world of sleds!

I have the same sled.

-Holz relocation for the front skid arm. Corrects some geometry issues, around $40
-Orange Cat secondary spring with shift assist bearing, around $50
-141 Power Claw $$ but supposed to kill all other tracks
-Cat aluminum front arm bushing kit, they are probably worn out.
-pet resistant screen door material over the factory vents, or get the new Frogskin vents from Cat.
-Flyscreen off a firecat to improve looks and so it rolls over easier
-check the primary clutch for worn rollers and weights
-pull the diamond drive, split it in half, check bearings etc, fill

Your going to love this sled. Have fun boondocking, just make sure to respect those land owners in MN/MI. :face-icon-small-hap

I have a fox float conversion f/s in the swap meet that will work with that sled once you have holz relocation brackets which are a must. It replaces the stock rear shock, arms, upper idlers, and torsion springs and replaces with a float shock. It saves 8.1 lbs, allows for more adjustments and better bump control, collects less snow, and upgrades your skid to an 09 style.

Knee pads which can be purchased from your dealer are also a must on the M series sleds as you are always sliding into the console and banging up your knees on the trail ride to the pow. The frogzskins vent covers on the 2010 models are also a very good investment and are only like 25 bucks. Venting is also a good idea.

I've been looking for a very long time for a sled like that in that price range Where did you get it at?

Welcome to the world of rider forward! ;) Very clean looking sled, always liked those m7 graphics the best. :)

Some clutch work does help on the m7s, also I would check to make sure the rollers are round and weights are working properly. I went with the rkt secondary kit also, really like how much better the bottom end is.

Snow eliminators- it's nice not to be fighting ice buildup on the boards.

Vents- to keep that clutch heat down, 2cool makes some nice ones.

Ski's- I would get aftermarket, there are a few different ways to go on these, I have powder pros but they aren't the greatest for trails.

Hand guards- took a while to get use to the looks but they sure do keep the hands warmer. It also helps to fill the handle bars with foam.

The new 2010 cat seat is pretty nice too if you were wanting to spend a bit more money.

thanks!

thanks for all the input, I now have some maint and upgrades to take care of. I noticed some were wondering where I got it. well I took an 8 hour road trip to ORR, MN. Havent seen a sled like this chaeper so I went for it. If you all come up with more upgrades I will keep them on hand and hopefully I will get some done soon and post a new pic.

Thanks all!

Tunnel pumps, I think that can was designed more for 1000 and turbos, I put 5000 miles with speedwerx pipe and can. With pipe and can at your elev. you might need control box.

I would do a can, better boards, and if you decide to do the seat. Try to compare the 10 seat to the boss, before you buy.

The m7 is one heck of a good sled, enjoy :D
