UPDATE from nonsledwife--no longer too irritated!

Okay, so my husband took me out with him and a buddy for a quick ride on new years day. I borrowed gear and a sled and was good to go. After a quick training session and some sled time in a field they felt ready to take me on a little trail. There wasn't THAT much snow and the trail was pretty packed where we were at, so I didn't get the full extent of the whole experience, but what I had was pretty good. And hubby was pretty patient, expecially when I refused to go over a bridge and he had to take me over it.

So the ride--I certainly can see why they (hubby and friends) love the mountains so much. I felt ready to do some carving after a little bit and was wishing there was more snow.

BTW--I even got to ride on the dragon. But unfortunately for me there are no pictures to prove any of it (guess I need to go again)

Am I ready to head to Wyoming and venture out with the big boys on the mountains? Not yet, but I am closer than I was a few months ago. I would like to ride someplace a bit closer!

I know he has a few trips over the next few months planned--so as his wife--I plan to lay off for a bit and hoping for June and July when sledding won't necessarily be the first thing on his mind!

the best thing in the world for your hubby is you to enjoy sleddding...that said...ride more..not every weekend..but maybe get him to take you every 3-4 weeks for now...also watch some video's..if you pay attention you can learn alot about powder riding..also..try and get one of his good friends that is a good rider to show you the basics..it is far easier then hubby doing it is what we have found(hubbies get upset that you arnt doing it just right..learning fast enough and such)..also never ever let anyone push you into doing something you are not comfy with..people get bad hurt riding over their ability(with my kids if at any time they feel uncomfortable with a riding situation we stop and I take their sled thru the spot and we talk about how they can get comfy with dealing with said obstacle...eventually they learn from watching how to handle it and from then on they do fine with it..powder riding is one of the simplist things to learn...but one of the hardest things to master...good luck and welcome to a great sport...

I remember your thread from before and am glad you took in all of our reccomendations!!! Glad to hear you had a great time!!!! Hang in there and you will learn to love it!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Said Mike! Patience is key. You with yourself, and the hubby with you! Mike is right, if your hubby has a bud that is willing to help "train" you on outing, things tend to go much smoother. Glad you and he enjoyed this outting.

Nice going.

If ya can't beat em, join em.

You're going to have to change your name now to "SleddinWife".

Glad to hear you had a good time.
and just because hubby is going to the mountains doesn't mean you can't.
Try and see if another wife would like to go. Try a little trail riding, just to check out the area and see the sights.
Be a nice little vacation.
You get to get away for a bit and go riding, hubby still gets to go hang with the boys and do what he does. Everybody is happy.

not too sure if I'm ready to change my name to sleddinwife just yet :)--but I've certainly grown more interested--

also NOT quite sure which one of his buddies would be willing to "train" me to ride-guess maybe I'll wait to see which ones offer :)

thanks for the kind replies gentlemen--

She did very well and actually only killed one tree but was a runt anyway so she was doing it a favor. Unfortunatly the was little good snow to keep the dragon and my buds m7 cool and when we got up on top of the bluffs the wind had blown away all but the ice. There was one low spot on a hill that allowed me to show off just a bit for her. I did put on the full mountain outfit backpack and all so she could see how cool I looked in all that expensive Klim gear and a few pulls in the field let her hear that sweet MBRP sound. It was actually just alot of fun for me to share sledding with her and I was glad she hopped on the dragon and took it for a spin you can't beat a hot chick on kick a$$ sled. All in all it was fun and she will ride again.

Last year I took my better half riding for the first time and she had some what of a good time but it was cold so she said it was ok not great and then the next time I took her it was to the bars deep and it took her one turn and she came back and said I need my own sled. March 08 we had a 08 Yamy in the garage with a pink helmet. Her first ride on her new sled was some what interesting she rolled it once got stuck a half dozen times and was making turns like a pro by the end of the day, she said what have I been missing all this time. Now her and her freinds have sleds and go riding by themselves I call them team estrogen.

you will get hooked

Sable,

any of your riding pards have a wife that could ride with yours? They'd learn together and push each other way more than what you could. I dunno maybe its natural competition amoung the gals lol.

run it past some of your crew and see if they'd intruduce their wives to sledding too.

I did this with my wife and a buddies wife with ATV's, worked great and they had fun riding together.

I rode with some guys last year and they talked about their wifes wanting to ride/not being interested/not supporting them etc etc. This mans' wife wanted to learn, she was a newbie.... What hit me as freight train was him saying that he bought her 1000cc long track. He was hoping that she'd get discouraged (!!!!!!!!!!) so he can keep riding with his buddies AND keep the mountain sled for himself!!!!!!!!! What an azzhole!!!!!!! That was last time I rode with him.

My wife and I have ridden sleds together since 1994 and ride dirt bikes since 1980 together. Took time, but she loves it and is one of the best female riders and in the top 15% of the guys in our snowmobile club of over 100 members.

Got her an M7 in 05 an 162, it was too long dumped it and got an 06 M7 153 PERFECT. We ride all backcountry and she goes everywhere. It is one of the great pleasures of our lives.

BTW she is 58. :)

Unfortunately we are getting out of sledding now and we really miss it.

Women if you have to, join a club and then you can get good help and training if He won't. Guys it is worth it to spend serious time teaching the wife.

Is that your wife or your daughter? Awful lot of gray and missing on the right side of that picture and an awful lot of young looking on the left. LOL. Actually envy you. Wish my wife had an interest in the sport.
